I have noticed how bored I have been getting lately of video games in general which used to never be the case. I remember playing halo 2 online and getting a nerd orgy from blowing someone's ass up. I also liked the game packaging quality better back then, than now. Now, they'll sell you a disc, a shit made scrap metal figurine and a book for 150 bucks and call it a collectors edition. Many may argue with me and say that games such as skyrim, mw3, and gears 3 are extremely fun. Don't get me wrong, they are. They just don't have the same competitive fun environment that was incorporated in original Xbox and early 360 games. Now what's your guyses opinion?

Agreed. You don't even get the cool instruction booklets or anything. I'd say more of it has to do with looking at old games through nostalgia eyes. Though new games definitely are much shitter and focus more on graphics and other bs than gameplay

The producers seem to be focussing on keeping up with the latest graphics. So sad that they've abandoned the storyline in pursuit of sweat on a characters face.

I think the pursuit of more money is ruining gaming. I just learned that one of my favorite development companies is switching to Steam for their next game just to save money. We all know how much of a bitch Steamworks can be if a game is built on it. They are alienating a good percentage of their playerbase to save money.

Personally, I don't have a problem with any of the new video games I have been playing recently. Like Kabal said, your looking at old video games through nostagia eyes. I suggest you try and expand your horizon of games you play and try something new if your having so much trouble trying to find a game to play that you'll enjoy.

Are you guys kidding about the graphics part of games? Most games now are being made for consoles (which are completely limited in their graphics quality, forget upscaling and source formatting, most xbox games are made 720p or below) so developers ignore PC development and spit out formulaic crap like CoD just because the majority of the market revolves around consoles. PC specific games like half life, portal, crysis, battlefield, minecraft, WoW, diablo, LoL, ToR, etc etc. have great graphics development AND constantly improving on gameplay.

Graphics definitely aren't the only thing that makes a game good (minecraft) but if you have the game AND you can put out nice graphics to make most of the market, then why wouldn't you? It's something you can use to market with, especially targeting the PC sector who actually appreciate graphics to stress their hardware or to make the game more immersive.

I agree completely with Nero, as I believe certain developers prefer to cash out rather than make their customers happy. Activision would be the biggest one off the top of my head, not even bothering to alter games like CoD and other console ports for PC. Even bethesda made a huge mistake at launch with skyrim having such an anti-PC interface, but luckily they have sense and are giving ongoing support for modding like all their past games.

It is game developers limiting things like DLC and modding that are really screwing the PC (and relatively, the console community) community over and hindering progression of new ideas. Monetizing every download and addon for games, and using the same old formula because it sells, leaves them no reason to improve it.

With game quality increasing, peoples expectations had increased alot more than the quality. Classics like Final Fantasy 9 are what we should return to. Don't need good graphics but they're really good storyline.

Is it just me, or has the quality of video games decreased?

I think this could go both ways.

On one hand I completely agree with this. For some reason I just don't experience the same joy of destroying my friends in Call Of Duty that I got from destroying my friends in the original Super Smash Bros, or Golden Eye 007. Its obvious that game developers are trying to squeeze every last drop of money they can out of games these days, and maybe its ruining the experience to a point.

However, why do developers make video games in the first place? To make money. They have the right to do whatever they want to get the most money out of it. Another reason why games may not seem as fun is because of the nostalgia factor. We look back on old games and remember the fun times we had with them, which makes them feel like they were a great game. I know for sure that there are still fun games out there now. I love Gears Of War 3, and I loved playing with my friends on horde mode. I also just opened Mass Effect 2 last night and I am HOOKED, so far it has been amazing!

So basically my point is, times change, and so do video games. Although the market is changing, don't lose faith. Video games are evolving and I am sure one day we will look back on gears of war with the same nostalgia we felt for golden eye 007.

Honnestly I think more pixel's makes you tired quicker, atleast thats what it seems like to me, though its more likely that as I age my taste and limits change.

    Agreed.

What makes a game super fun is original gameplay, that's why Halo and Halo 2, Battlefield 2, Super Smash Bro's, etc were so badass.

The games nowadays are all the same. How many Modern Warfares are there now? Like 10? All you get is different weapons, different graphics and crappier maps with the newer additions.

The problem is the strategy above is successful because the same dumbasses keep buying the whole damn series which makes the game developers rich. It's the same with the iPhone, iPod and iPad, new generation after new generation, and the same stupid people lap it up like Charlie Sheen on a crack binge.

Saying that sequels are the root of the problem isn't necessarily true. How many Super Mario sequels have there been? How many Legend of Zelda sequels have there been? How many EA sports game sequels have there been? Countless. The problem is innovation. If a sequel is not innovative enough people will get restless and start to complain as they are doing with series such as Halo or COD.

If you look at things like Final Fantasy or Zelda or the such, every single one is completely different. Each has much different game play and each is unique. Something like COD is just the same thing over and over again at this point with a couple different guns and a new plot.

And I said original gameplay, which is pretty much the same as innovation. I think we're all on the same page here, just approaching from different angles.
