[Denied] Political discourse forum

Is there a reason why this doesn’t exist or was removed? I feel as though this is a forum-staple for just about any website that has user to user interaction.

Pros:

Would invite more activity and discussion in a debate-like format.

Makes for intellectual conversation and provides diverse view points.

Politics is diverse so many topics can be created and discussed.

Cons:

There may be limitations on conversations depending where the source originates from. Ex: User creates topic about politics in an area which isn’t popular worldwide or doesn’t reflect the user-base of this website. However this does increase an education aspect in which we are able to learn the politics of foreign land. Making those who participate less ignorant and more aware of global issues.

 

I'd support this if it had spam forum rules, because political discussions on sythe tend to get pretty wild(im quite sure that's why it got removed from discord)

 

The whole world is a political discourse forum these days, i am good without it, no support.

 

Hi tigeris. This wouldn’t be a spam-like forum. It would be a serious forum board with serious discussions within it. It would also take place on this website and not a platform that isn’t meant to be taken serious. I’m all for heated debates as long as it is serious in nature. The rules shouldn’t be too strict, but you don’t want the content to be troll induced.

I'm just saying that civilized discussion about politics will never happen here, it will be a shit storm (And maybe that's not entirely a bad thing)

 

That is what rules are for. You make rules and enforce them. Just like any other website with a messaging board, if the rules of the forum are being infringed, posts can be reported and dealt with.

 

That's a "fuck no" from me, good buddy. The last thing this community needs is for American political unrest to pollute the rest of the site (which is decidedly not US-centric). You will NEVER contain all political discussions within a dedicated forum, you will only encourage site-sanctioned divisiveness among the userbase that will inevitably leak out into the rest of the forum on a subject that has no purpose to be here on a runescape black market.

If you want to debate politics with children, sign up for Tumblr. If you want to share political memes, sign up for facebook/instagram. If you want to feel warm comfy about your political beliefs in a safe echochamber, sign up for the appropriate subreddit.

 

Hi MohtasaUnique. I see that the concern here you present is that what is posted within that forum would lead to political unrest (quite the exaggeration), and ideas and opinions shared in that forum would pollute the website (in what way?). Not everyone likes politics and that is okay. This would be for those who are interested in posting there. As you can see, the intensity you bring forth would lead to debate which would promote activity outside of the marketplace. I understand that this is a marketplace forum, but there is also a community outside of that.

Nothing in life is guaranteed. I suggested it because I thought it would be good for activity outside of the market and for those who are interested in politics. I see political discussion all the time on Runescape so I figured it would transition smoothly. You are entitled to your opinion and it is appreciated.

 

No support from me. I think it will end up leading to a ton of drama. People won't obey rules that would be set and it will turn into a drama fest.

It’d be good for discussion and potentially ramp up some activity if it was titled something more like “serious debates / discussion” but even then no.

Maybe I’d be for it in the Discord. More people utilize it now anyways as opposed to the forums.

 

This is a very good point. Something For All was basically what OP is asking for. The section died and it was removed.

 

Hi Superfluous. Thank you for providing this information. From my understanding, the forum “Something For All” was archived for inactivity? There are many forums currently that look inactive, but I don’t think that warrants their removal. I also think that discord isn’t a proper channel for intellectual conversation, rather it is a platform meant for gaming, business, and casual conversation. For the meantime I’ll be posting in General Discussion. Thank you for your comment, it is appreciated.

Yeah Something For All was removed a while ago (which I suspect you're referring this suggestion to) and there doesn't seem that much of intelligence in the userbase anyways, so it's a waste of space.
