    [DENIED] Closing your own thread

I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested, but I think being able to close your own thread would be a good new asset for sythe.

    1) It'll put less work on the mods so they can take care of more important things.
    2) You don't have to worry about getting someone to close your thread and can easily do it yourself.

This is just a thought, maybe we can make this feature for $100+ Donators? It'll pretty much be the same thing as changing your own thread title if you have a certain amount donated.

Let me know what you guys think!

    The DO NOT SUGGEST list.

Pretty sure closing threads is considered staff power.

However I do agree. Off top of my head I can't see any reason this wouldn't be beneficial. I actually see a lot of threads which should be closed [either because something has been sold, question has been answered etc.]

Maybe there is some way this could be abused that we aren't thinking of? Not sure.

As much as I see where you are coming from, you look back and see the positives and negatives to this. Where you have convenience and saving mods some time, you also have members who recently scammed someone closing their thread to stop anyone from posting on their thread, you wouldn't have this as a donor benefit because the majority of people with even $100 are too low compared to the threads that actually get closed per day. Do I say it would be nice to do this, yes, is it feasible and reliable? Probably not. I'm going to go with no support, and I don't agree with kf saying it is a staff power, people can request their thread be closed now and a mod will close it, there isn't question about that, it is just the actual ability to do so is locked to mods/admins. If you want to try and convince me otherwise go for it, but I don't think this will pass regardless.

Staff power =/= non-staff can't request a staff member to do it for them

to give an example: you can also request your threads be moved to a different section if you posted in the wrong one - it's still a staff power.

I also do not see how someone who just scammed closing their own thread is of any relevance, you are supposed to report incidents in the RaS anyway.

I don’t see why it would be staff power if we’re the ones requesting to be locked, would be very useful to have this feature.

I didn’t really work out the details on what the requirements will be to have those privileges, I kind of just had the thought so I decided to post it here to see what the community thinks and what we should set the requirements. Maybe even $200+ with a certain amount of post count for example. You can’t always expect the worse and say someone can possibly scam by closing their own thread.
I personally think this can be useful and help save a lot of people’s time.

This is on the DNS list, therefore I'm going to deny it, but I'll provide some extra clarification below to help you understand why this wouldn't be a good implementation.

    Also to add onto this:
Valid point for-sure, however a lot of new members aren't fully aware as to how they can report someone, so by posting there we can help re-direct/guide them into doing so properly in the correct section.

TL;DR - This is a security risk to the site, which would far outweigh any of the minor advantages this would bring. Besides locking a thread is very easy for a staff member to do, so this doesn't change much. Just report your thread you want locked/PM an available staff member (preferably the 1st), and it'll be done within a reasonable time-frame.
