[DENIED] change the way we Pm Discord Conversations and publish anything Discord Related Content

Hi there fellow community. Yes I refer you guys as a community cause that's the idea of what we are, and for what we should stand for. I come here with mere words, and some pictures, to explain something that affects us all, "Imposter Scams" and I would like something done about it.

Yesterday we had a problem with a new user being scammed by someone imposting Frogstar Frogstar is bad at sending PMs

So briefly, cause most of you guys know this, some "scummy" person made 2 fake discords one exactly like Frogstar using discord Nitro to have his same tag Pingy#7710

This is a fake Frogstar



But this one is the real one



So, How can someone who barely uses Sythe just to buy gold or sell, and go first to everyone he finds reputable enough by seeing his vouches or activity, a newcomer is the word, know which one is fake which one is not?

Well there are ways to know, but, they are unorthodox

One is to ask for the Unique ID which cannot be changed, but this is new, and it is something very unorthodox to do to the noob user all thanks to Discord Nitro (I totally disagree with discord's way of making money with Nitro Btw)

So, how do we do it?

So now you can copy the unique ID of a person which it is like it says, UNIQUE, to everyone

One guy, was in rage, saying that the Twc Frogstar got wasnt deserved IMO I feel the same way.
He just Quick pmed someone assumming he knew all this info

Is Frogstar to blame aswell?: NO

But we should either way use Frogstar's Trade With Caution as an example, cause, what happened that day? We made some Mod's valuable time to waste, Sythe probably lost some traffic because that guy probably doesnt want to come back after he got scammed, and I or every seller lost a potential customer because all of what happened was just the way we are accustomed to send pms including discord Me personally I lost that sale, cause this guy got a fake offer from a fake Frogstar and lost his money and I lost a sale.

So please think for a bit, is this the way we should be trading?: NO Absolutely no, this is careless!

We gotta asume that people dont know exactly what they are doing, we gotta educate them, we gotta assume that everyone is a noob so we gotta do things properly or we are gonna lose new customers around sythe.

So what do we gotta change? well we gotta enforce the way we pm trough Discord by including the uniques ID of each ones involved, a picture of the chat, and spam newcomers about how to properly trade, CAUSE I WILL REPEAT THEY DONT KNOW!

We should also enforce that we publish our unique ID's in every thread we're bumping in and teach every individual about it SO scams ocurr less and less

and we should provide the proper alerts to newcomers, like they recieve a message saying anything related on how to interpretate a proper pm, or, even better have an alert to newcomers, or people the first 10-20 pms people recieve TO PROPERLY READ the info you are getting also including proper ways to be safe about it.

Cause Nitro Sucks, and it is making people scam easier by just making a 5$ payment.

we shouldnt allow that, but there's not much we can do, so we gotta teach people how to be safe

Imagine that, a 2 years old member missing that thread huh? Madness. Yeah it was my mistake, but still, my point still remains the same, I dont feel we're enforcing it enough

anyone cant just miss those threads unless they have it in their faces as newcomers.

Please keep reading I have real points we should change in the future.

 

A lot of the points you bring up, broad or specific, have and are currently being discussed among staff because of the influx of these Discord scams occurring. @Champ specifically has made efforts towards educating users and I think it's already gone a long way considering a suggestion like this is being made.

So once again I think, in general, the community and staff agree with the sentiment of trying to get the word out more and implementing changes to better protect our user base.

I'm actually glad the TWC on Frogstar is controversial because it's bringing attention to why he got a TWC and the underlying problems that we need users to be more aware of.

 

Tbh. Even tho you message the person with the correct template. No "Newcomer" is going to know what 'Unique ID' is. Even if they did know what UNIQUE ID is, they wouldn't even check it. "Newcomers" in my experience CBA to check the stickies. That's the reason they get screwed. If the moderators wanted to bring attention to this.

They could make a POP-UP when they enter the site and make them agree to it or something like programs do.

It is the buyers responsibility to ensure that they are safe, that means taking ALL measures to be sure that they aren't being scammed. Someone who missed the thread wasn't looking to be safe while trading. And any middleman or seller that doesn't confirm with the official discord pm template should be punished with a TWC or be held liable, I agree with @A Broken Man where people should be held accountable if they aren't capable of doing their jobs. So with that being said, I don't support anything changing with the system, it is fine how it is. People need to be more professional with trading practices.

Erm. I dont feel that it's the buyer's responsibility. Its the responsibility of the market maker. (Ex. The person who made the thread). Its like buying bitcoin from a regulated area but that exchange isnt compliant. Its not the buyers fault that they werent alerted. (Ofc this is an example)

 

it is very true what you say, people are responsible to check themselves to who they are trading and to be safe about, But I think we ought to draw a line and be honest about the current problems that they are happening, let me show you the 2 sides of the coin.

this is the pm I sent to the victim who got scammed by my impostor:



guy didnt even look at the picture, probably didnt even open the pm to begin with, cause in that case at least he would have noticed that it was totally unrelated to him, chat was different, conversation he had with my impostor was about buying a runescape name and even the discord was totally different. discord tags were different, only person liable for this trade was the victim. I did my part

In the other hand, the Frogstars case, it was different. They were too many similarities specially with the discord tag being the same which it is the most important part of it. Guy was new, asked for a PM saw the tag was the same he felt safe about it.

but that's the problem, we ought to assume people just dont know how to properly trade. And I feel that if we spend 15-20 seconds more doing a proper PM we would have a healthier enviroment in Sythe cause at least we know we're doing the right thing

 

I agree we need proper pms, people are being punished for not doing so, amd should be held accountable for not doing so. I just don't believe we need to change anything, should you follow the current template you shouldn't worry of being scammed.

 

That would make everyone PM properly even send a video of the discord convo itself. But yeah I can see why it got denied, people just wont accept it cause they rather be lazy about it. They dont care, but what they should care is that it has consequences, people not wanting to come back to sythe.org because they get scammed that should affect every trader around.

Im even somewhat trusted in another forums, but most of the people just refer Sythe as a nest of scammers, so they dont take me as trusted because of that.

 

I should also change the poll question but I can't to "Should we enforce the proper way we send pms?" cause yeah, we dont need to change anything the templates are there.

shouldnt it say "Your Unique Discord ID" ? also order doesnt really matter as long as all the info is there. they are either going to pay attention and read it or they wont and get scammed.

 

I assume the second one is the other traders ID not certain though.

 

yeah thats what I mean. it should say "Your" same as it says "My" to be clear. not that big of a deal but an easy fix. Maybe @Champ has another reason. As far as I can tell there isnt a specific ID for the chat itself so yeah. Maybe there is for a group chat with more than 2 members but I havent looked.

We have made a news announcement, we have reformed every possible template to fix the problem and I contacted as many trading discords as I could to make their users aware. Ultimately, there will always be scams regardless of the solutions, people are going to fall victim of a scam. The cold truth is it's irresponsibility people carelessly trade GP / Various other trades like it's nothing. If you took every step including the ID's you will be perfectly fine. It's unfortunate situations, but ultimately regardless of the news post, regardless of the warnings, people will still be scammed everyday. I handle RAS reports every single day whether it be account scams, scams in general, or just plain out scams could have all been prevented if they used the proper Middleman tools we have available.

If anyone has any solutions they would like to add in / would like to discuss a reform in any section lacking, by all means contact me on Discord and I will do my best job to put input in the situation and give you clear scenarios as to why things are the way they are. I'll also do everything I can if your suggestion makes sense to help get the vague areas reformed. I too care about this community and would do anything to prevent scams, and other various things, but to completely wipe it out to nothing, I am not sure that is possible.
