[DENIED] Don't allow regular members to delete posts off of their profile.

Title.

Why?

Reason being is because a lot of newcomers who aren't aware of where to/how to report someone end up posting on the scammers profile, which usually either results in the user who's being accused reporting the post, which we are then able to re-direct him (and imo this is probably because the user is unaware he/she can delete it), or the user straight up deletes the profile post and nothing usually follows up after that. The "Report" button is their for a reason, so if this isn't the case the user who's being accused (or whoever else sees it prior) can report the post, and we as staff can take appropriate measures to re-direct the user to the proper section with the sticky's needed to help assist him/her with the report.

No, I don't think this will be a good idea as you get some right shit posted on their sometimes.

I think this would be a good idea if there is a rule to say posting on a profile is harassment and you will receive a punishment on some sorts.

Or just perm ban hex then I will support.

 

I my profile was spammed by some guy, there were no mods online so if I didn’t have the ability to delete myself those posts would have remained there for a long time :/

On the other hand what you are saying makes sense. I’ve also had someone post on my profile that he was scammed, I had to add him to help him make a report. If he had done this on the scammer’s profile and the scammer had deleted it, I’m pretty sure that would have been that.

Interested to see how this suggestion goes. I’ll abstain for now

 

No support, its my profile and I should be able to decide what gets posted on it or not, rather than wasting staff time reporting it and leaving it to someone else to decide if it can be removed or not.

Assuming that's the case though, it would be hard to enforce, since a user could then just donate 5$ after scamming and delete the message.

And then otherwise, trying to set a donator amount as a thresh hold would probably have some backlash from the donators of sythe.

I guess i'll support this however; any post considered as spam/false would need to have much higher infractions as a result.

May change my mind later though.

 

I agree, but this is mainly to combat scammers who spam delete any posts made on their profile accusing them before someone can see it and help them accordingly before it's too late to prevent more scams. Nothing will change as you will still be able to decide what you want/don't want posted on it. I get reporting it is annoying, but if a user purposefully spams unwanted stuff on your profile, then you can report and we can punish accordingly. Like I said I know this is annoying, but I'm more so looking at the bigger picture in preventing more scams from occurring before they do.

 

Support. Believe it or not, alot of the newcomers and even regular members(those who never got scammed up till that point) have never even known the existence of a Report a Scammer section in the forum, let alone know what to do next when scammed. It's a step in the right direction.

 

If you want to combat scammers then I would suggest turning Sythe away from the free market a bit, Allowing a newcomer to sell an account what is clearly going to be recovered back is insane. But not allowing us to delete our comments on our page is it really going to change that much??

 

Users should not be able to delete posts from the profile, I believe that the profile posts should be treated the same as all the other posts on Sythe.org, with the EXCEPTION that User's should be able to request ANY post on the profile to be deleted, due to it being their own profile they should be able to pick what is and isn't on it.

No support. If someone scams, report them and get them a DNT or TWC.

 

Idk. might be better to pin the report a scammer section somewhere in the market subs instead of this solution.

 

There are generally a lot of good points made in this post, a lot of pros and cons.

Is there any solution to making the report a scammer section more noticable? Stand out more? So maybe new users etc may find it easier to find these sections.

 

Moving it to the top of the forum homepage was suggested a few years ago but it would damage the image of the site if the first thing a newcomer sees to this site is "report a scammer", it is at the bottom for a reason, nobody (at heart) wants to see it.

 

I assume mods/staff have the ability to see history on post items (original, edits, deletes - things like that) so I don't see the detriment in people being able to delete it themselves - as it wouldn't be really getting rid of any evidence anyway?

If this board does NOT have the history functionality that I've mentioned above available to staff (although especially with the nature of this board I strongly assume it does), then I can see the value and merit of this suggestion.

 

Support, if there is harrasment on a members profile it should be reported so that it could be deleted.
