Is our government the best for US?

This topic is for those who want to discuss the idea of, is Democracy really best for the citizens.

Democracy has changed over many years and has seen many different leaders in many different countries. So, do you really think that the democracy we have in place now is best for us or is it just void? Over the past years, we have seen rise in taxes, rise in gas prices, lack of essential material etc.

So is it really Bush's fault? (no i am not a bush fan) or is it ours? WE elected George Bush, WE could never take action.

So what is best for us? What is best for you?

Well, we don't actually have a democracy in place. A democracy is literally the rule of the majority. The rights of the minority are not protected.

The best form of government is one that does not interfere, but protects the rights of individuals.

We didn't actually elect Bush, lol. He lost the popular vote by 500,000 votes.

Is our government the best for US?

Remember that not all the people in Sythe are from the US. There are many people from all around the world. Your topic title is very biased because it assumes that the reader will be talking about their country.

    ----

The president cannot be the sole person to blame for what some people might perceive as a bad government. The system of checks and balances makes sure that no one person can have total control of government, and therefore no one person can be held responsible for the actions of government.

If you think about it Bush was damned in the beginning. After the attacks on WTC he had two choices a go to war or don't go to war. He obviously chose to go to war and the repercussions of his decision came a year or so later. But had he chosen not to enter a war he would have immediately been publicly prosecuted.

Is democracy perfect, no it, like any other system made by man, is flawed? However its the best form of government so far that works when placed into action.

However you must remember that our democracy allows us to elect our leaders. It is the franchise that allows the population to choose the figure head of our government. If you are unhappy with our current leader then exercise your franchise.

Well, that depends on whether you believe that freedom of individualism is important. In my view it is important, and the United States government is the closest anyone has ever gotten. The ideal government would have elected representatives directly from the people and for the people, who could be disposed of when the majority saw fit. Surprisingly, the Founding Fathers did not establish a democracy, it was a Republic, they did not trust the decisions of the common man. If they were to look at the system that we have now they would be repulsed. Ever since Watergate the only reason to become president is for the money, not for wanting a better country. No one wants their private lives interfered with, but if they become president they know that that is what they'll get ever since the press made every little aspect of the presidents' daily lives public knowledge. That's why we no longer have any FDRs or Lincolns. We get stuck with people like McCain, Hillary, and Obama. In other words, our twisted government is nowhere near perfect, but is the closest that any government has gotten to perfection while retaining the safety and individuality of its residents.

in a republic, each person's vote counts for 1 vote. In a democracy, there are representatives that work in the interest of those they represent.

Democracy is pure majority rule. There are no representatives - the people make all the decisions.

That's not true in the least bit. Often in a republic the archon is elected by an elected board -- in other words, the president is elected by representatives of the people, not by the people directly.

    Our government sucks.
We are closer to a republic than a democracy, though recently we resemble more of a police type state.

Well my point is that in our constitution (which i believe the government has thrown out) it says a government by the people, for the people, and yet the PEOPLE have absolutely no say in what goes on. We live it up to individuals who we elect, but they should not be our voice. We have no true say when it comes to making laws or deciding taxes, all we have is a "say", and then we rely on the delegates.

And now comes the equality part, some states count for more than others. Just because the population of a state is larger does not mean that it gets more of a say. This is common in presidential elections and law making.

Our government is failing to hear our voices, our beliefs.

And yes i know all don't live in the U.S., but this is for those that are.

Pretty much, we are a democratic republic. The gov't thinks cash first, people second. Of course, what government doesn't?

A pure democracy would be the best. And it's our fault for not doing anything about Bush.

Is our government the best for US?

It's pretty much the governments job to look out for the people's best interests, nothing more... It seems pretty obvious that the government has been pursuing their own agenda that doesn't exactly correspond with what is best for us, the people.

You talk like voting actually matters? We were given an option between 2 people. Where did those 2 people come from? The media essentially controls the bulk of the elections, as we've seen with the whole Ron Paul fiasco. The only candidates that have a fighting chance are the ones that get the most exposure on the media, and as most of us know, the majority of the major media networks are all controlled by money. So we start to see this pattern where the same families with the most financial backings and the best connections make their appearances time and time again. Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. (And lets not forget lil Jeb Bush out in flordia, which also happens to be the state of controversy regarding Bush's first election)? Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton? Give me a break, this isn't a monarchy, but their treating it like one... keeping it all in the family. There's even been some evidence to suggest that the bush's and the Clinton's "hang out" regularly, which might mean they are working together to keep the power in control.

Bush or Al Gore? Bush or John Kerry? Do you want the puppet on the right or the puppet on the left.... it's not like the democratic and republican parties are *really* that different. NOW GO FORTH PEOPLE AND CHOOSE YOUR LEADER.

    fuckin' a

Thank you! We never see what a president is really offering. We always succumb to lower taxes and healthcare etc. But do we ever consider other issues? The candidates hide so many other interests behind the major ones.

And yes, it is our fault because we did not stand up to say anything. Bush can go back to his rich Texas ranch... i mean honestly. Name 3 good things that have happened while he was in office:

    1. Taxes Up

    2. War Started... economy down

    3. Less jobs

    Oh wait, those are bad
