Mobile phone/Landline confirmation number.

Hi all,
My suggestion would be upon registration, one was to enter their mobile phone/landline phone number for confirmation and verification purposes. This will weed out a lot of potential scamming, considering one would have to have a new phone number or access to another phone number each time they wanted to create a new account.
It would also be a way for recovering accounts, old members who become inactive and get hacked with a different IP address to which they signed up with, should get a confirmation txt/call.
Maybe we could implement this in a different way?
This is merely a suggestion, any feedback would be great..

 

What about those who don't have a mobile phone or don't have access to phones for reasons such as dorms and such?

 

What's to stop someone from putting down a random relative's number? If that person scams and someone calls that number regarding the scam, they can say "I don't know what Sythe is. I don't know who scammed who. Wrong number."

 

But when they go to re register with a new account, they will have to apply a new number, as the other account will be banned and registered with that specific phone number. Potentially weeding out scammers that are returning.

 

No support, would stop new members joining. If I had to enter my phone number I wouldn't have joined Sythe back in 2011.

 

Was suggested before and denied. I vaguely remember there being a phone verification for a short period of time, or it was discussed and denied, not to familiar with the facts.

I've got a big family. Around 20 of us (including uncles, aunts, cousins). We have around 15 residences between us. That's a lot of phone numbers mate. Wouldn't work.

 

No support I also feel like it may make members not want to join.

 

Denied, Sythe may have a plan some day.
