Haven't really looked into 12/21/2012 much... Guess I'm not really into the superstition-things, but it seems like this could be a little more than that? Fill me in ;)

I dont often laugh at posts on the internet but this one made me piss myself.

    Anyways...
2012 doesnt seem too believeable. But to those who think about it you really start to question the significance of life. At least thats what i did at least.

This is the date that the Mayans implied on, about 90% of what they predicted didn't happen.. So I doubt the 2012 thing will all go down, just like everyone predicted something to happen with June 6th 2006. Nothing happened, quit being scared people. With absolute no proof of it being true, I don't think the 2012 has much of a case behind it. :)

Except from the Durial incident :)

But on a serious note. I would love it to be true. The world is getting more and more boring as it goes on. We need something big to actually HAPPEN.

No-one can actually predict when the world is going to end. Look at when they used that atom thing, everyone was ranting and raving about how that was going to end the world. /fail.

"Everyone" was not ranting about how it was going to end the world, only a bunch of unscientific morons.

So your telling me when it was happening, you didn't hear loads of people talking about it. I'm pretty sure there was threads about it on Sythe, it was on the news.

Was you at school? If so, I'm pretty sure you heard people speaking about it there.

I'm not very informed about the 2012 predictions, but I've heard some "Planet X" is coming straight for earth. I believe it's a dead star, from what I've heard. I'm really not sure though. I don't believe if the government knew about it they would be doing all of the programs they've recently established, for example, the government CARS program.

And if something were to happen I'm highly convinced that the government would get the best group of scientists together and find a way to survive what ever would happen to us on 2012.

"World ending" predictions have been happening for the last 50 years.
The date just gets pushed back further and further each time it really doesn't happen.

I made a paper on 2012 for fun the other day. There is going to be a pole shift, and as the quote states, "Planet X", named "Nibiru", will make an impact or close impact into Earth. The impact being the death of all mankind, the close- impact being the pole shift.

As my brother said, "The world won't end on 2012, there will just be a very large economic change."

And as my friend said, "Yes, there will be a very large economic change. Then the world will blow up."

Exactly...i had to do some research on the Mayans. They never said that was when the world would end. It was just the place they stopped their calendar...

I personally believe that there was a relatively advanced civilization that developed on Earth before our civilization and was wiped out by a global catastrophe (there's a lot of things supporting this belief but it would take hours to explain it all). There is a decent amount of evidence that the "doomsday calendar" that the Mayans use was actually given to them by another civilization (through a lot of contextual clues in Mayan writings).

Do I think that this is going to be the end of the world? No. Not necessarily anyway, but there happens to be a substantial galactic event occurring on that exact day that will inevitably reverse the poles of the planet.

So I don't necessarily think the world will end, but I do think that the Mayans knew something big was going to come (through astronomy and not spirituality), and we shouldn't blatantly pass it off as mysticism because it's too great of a coincidence to be a coincidence.

I find that hard to believe. If said civilization was advanced enough to predict the day this event was taking place, and modern scientists can't see it three years in advance, they would have to be much more advanced than we are now. That would mean a lot of infrastructure necessary to support that civilization. Why are there no remains of that infrastructure? There should be ruins left behind all over the place.

Alright let me clarify this. The Mayan calendar does not say the world will end on December 21st 2012. It actually just ends. What they knew is presumably what we know, and that is that the solar system moves though the galaxy in a sine curve, and every 25,800 years or so it crosses from one hemisphere of the galaxy to the other. December 21st, 2012 happens to be the next time that happens, and knowing of this ahead of time is certainly possible because we know it as well.

In actuality, the Mayan calendar is about 6500 years long or so, and repeats four times per each galactic alignment. People took the end of the calendar to mean the end of the world, but it's literally just another end of the cycle.

As for the ruins, look at what we have now. The pyramids of Giza are the most structurally sound monuments in existence. To this day we are unable to recreate such a perfect structure. Weathering hints suggest that there was a huge flood around 10,500 BC which is not only the approximate time the pyramids existed, but also when Atlantis supposedly ended. But think about something this way. If New York City was completely flooded with crushing water, how much of it would be left after 100 years, let alone 12,000? The fact that there's not much proof doesn't stand up to much.

For one, the subway would still be there. Also there would be concrete and roads still be there.

How does lack of proof not stand up to much? Things that don't exist don't produce evidence of non-existence, so what would you accept as argumentation against your view if not lack of evidence?

Now you're linking South America and Africa, which would mean a global civilization, which in turn requires even more infrastructure.
