Ok, just a quick something we were up to in class, so just wanted to see what you guys would think
    So yeah, my opinion really:
Cycling is dangerous, hazardous and risky and so are cyclists: they should be regulated and road taxed like any other vehicle user.

While I agree with Finn that taxation is immoral, I don't think you should tax them for different reasons (in the context that there are taxes for vehicles)
Cycling should be something we want to encourage - it's environmentally friendly, it doesn't give money to potential enemies, it isn't noisy, etc. Taxing something generally means people do/use less of it, in this case cycling, which isn't something we want to discourage.

Are you kidding me? I myself ride my bike to get places because I'm 15 and don't have a license yet. We ride on the sidewalks and it's not like we go on the road an hold up traffic. Shit, I already have to be shitting myself while riding my bike because I never know when that trucker ass hole is going to honk his train horn and pop my ear drum, or the nerdy college kids who have no life and do drive bys with a damn air soft gun on cyclists.

You say cyclists are dangerous. How?! We're riding on the sidewalk minding our own business. Cycling is a great source of transportation and we shouldn't tax people for it. And like everyone else is saying it's environmentally friendly.

I don't think they should be taxed. For one, they aren't doing any damage to the roads/sidewalks/whatever they are riding on. Also, as others have stated above, cycling is much for environmentally friendly and we should encourage it rather than discouraging it, which is what taxing it would do.

Maybe for people that don't know how to ride a bike. And rarely are there "many" cyclists out on the road at the same time without the streets being closed off. If there is, people in cars can easily just drive past them. But, I don't think they should be taxed seeing as how they don't pollute, tear up roads, etc.

And if the world could function properly without taxes you would have a point. However, the idea of taxing cyclists is just stupid.

No, Finnland . In any case, with regards to danger, cyclists probably injure fewer people than the dogs that people walk anyway.

Cycling on busy roads can be relatively dangerous to the cyclist.

With good provision of cycle tracks and laws to encourage cycling on pavements, but the potential of a fine for those who disregard the safety of pedestrians, cycling would not be a risky form of transport.

There's dangerous drivers, just like there are dangerous cyclists. Both get what comes to them, or at least they should. I wouldn't disagree with some slack for cyclists though, like designated bike lanes. If there were bike lanes, sidewalks and roads there wouldn't be any clash between the three main methods of transportation.

We don't tax people as a deterrent from driving on the roads. Something dangerous doesn't necessarily mean taxes are essential. Road taxes are supposedly used to repair streets that have been pressed down by the car's weight. Bikes don't impact the road, or at least not substantially, so why tax them?

Cycling is dangerous to the cycler not you.
It creates no pulltion, releases no evil gas like the vehicles people drive.
Great excuse to excercise as well.

You want to tax something so great?

Why should cyclists be taxed if the taxes they pay won't benefit them at all? Those taxes are used to pay for new roads, emission taxing, etc. How does that effect bikers at all? They don't need to bike on the roads, and they sure as hell don't pollute the environment.

I don't think cars tend to "blow up" often, at least not without help from a rag in the gas tank. >.<

Also, don't you think thy should think about taxing tractors that drive on the roads? I'm sure this probably isn't a problem for a lot of you because most of you probably live in bigger cities, but I live in a very small town and there are very often tractors driving on the roads. Not only do the tractors tear them up worse then a typical car they also drive very slow and cause a hazard to anyone driving. I really think that farmers that drive their tractors and other farm equipment on the public roads should have to pay for everything someone who drives a car on the road should, if not more.

First of all, how many deaths are cycling related every year compared to the number of cyclists? how about cars? How much damage do cars cars do to the environment, and or people around them? Cars are far more dangerous, and harm the environment.

the government has a tendency to tax things they like to see go away, generally harmful things. Take cigarettes for example, they're taxed to hell. The government would NEVER in a million years tax a form of exercise. Case Closed.

This is the most idiotic retarded stupidest thing I have ever heard. Taxes for bicycles, are you out of your fucking mind? The Netherlands, famous for several things, including bicycles and high taxes... we don't need more taxes , kind sir.

And cars are more dangerous than bicycles. I don't know if you have ever driven a car, I have and I have killed already over 10 imaginary people. (sorry, I don't feel like explaining this)

Also, bicycles are eco-friendly, governemnts add taxes to things that polute and now you're trying to tell me that they have to discourage using a clean, healthy and good transport device?
