    Bans for Life?

What point do you think outside of the sports world laws should constitute a permanent ban from nba, nfl, nhl etc etc?

Latest example, ray rice and domestic violence.

Ray Rice was already charged 2 weeks into the regular season for domestic violence, but after the video was released yesterday, the Ravens decide to drop him and the NFL bans him for the rest of the year(and possibly for life). I understand that the NFL has a huge fan base and the NFL must act responsible and give proper punishment, but the fact that they increased his punishment after a video was leaked seems unprofessional to me. They already gave him his punishment, why add onto it? I know the video was disturbing but I mean, its domestic violence, what did they expect?

Anyways to answer your question, a permanent ban in my opinion should only be used if a player shows no sign in improving, whether it be in becoming a better person after domestic violence, or continued use of drugs after being caught and punished.

While I do think some offenses such as domestic violence deserve to be much harsher than they originally were which has been righted somewhat the Ray Rice case was handled appallingly. First they undershot it, amended the rules for future events then changed the suspension and he was released. All of this PLUS the NFL may have had the video all the way back in April. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/10/ray-rice-video-nfl_n_5800126.html

The whole fiasco was poorly handled but that's brand protection for ya. I really hate Goodell, a puppet who's merely a figurehead for the owners doing what they tell him and ruining the league with his points of emphasis.

Odd the interview with ray Lewis where someone compared his case to the ray rice case. He got mad and said they were nothing alike even though he had to settle a civil suit in the stabbing death of 2 people and the only reason he wasn't prosecuted for the actual murders is he testified against his two friends. Blood was found in his limo and the white suit he was wearing that day was never found. Oh well though apparently hitting your girlfriend is worse than double homicide.

I don't think anyone should be banned from any sport unless there is an unanimous voting done by a committee that are all highly touted/respected individuals. Ones that won't take biased/racist opinions to the table.

For instance, Ray Rice f***ed up big time. However, it was for 30 seconds of his life. That shouldn't define someone as much as some people seem to give credit. I totally agree he should go to jail and serve his time...But I think he should be allowed back in after a certain amount of time and if he's become a better person.

People learn from mistakes, some don't.

Take the Mike Vick dog fighting case....He came back and no one really mentions that time. He's made a new image for himself and is doing much better.

Roger Gooddell should be hammered though. He saw all that video and claims he didn't and only gave 2 game suspension. YIKES.
