I was just thinking about some stuff, and all of a sudden this idea pops into my head. Since free trade came back you can set your own sell/buy price to anything....

Which means You could buy say all the whips you and a clan of merchers can afford for say..5% above GE value. You then hold them for a while and then mass sell them all for say 3-4m above market value in the "set your own price" They won't sell at first, but word would get around, and eventually people will say screw it, and buy above market value and noone would sell the whips they buy because they think they will hold value so the ge price eventually stays the same raising the price indefinitely and you sell all the whips through GE and gain massive amounts of money.

Then again, i don't know too much about anything like this. I'm just pretty high right now, and this sounded legitimate.

I did find plenty of ways this would never work, people could just kill abbys for whips and sell normal, but its unlikely , most would want to hold them to gain most value. People could boycott whips. You never know, but yea this is just a random thought that made me get on the computer just to post it.

This is assuming there aren't hundreds of people at abbysal demons and also assuming that your group of merchants have 20b+ to fun this little endeavor and an exit strategy similar to merch clans before free trade where they dumped the whips on hapless idiots who would follow them blindly.

Whips are dropping for the same reason nature runes, essence and herbs did.

A lot of ideas sound good when high... But unfortunately G.E. manipulation doesn't work as it did before the restrictions were moved.

I know but i was just using a whip as an example. You could do a diffrent item, it all depends on what item you choose.

You could but saturation of the effective markets means that buying a majority would be unreasonable.

This is only really feasible with items that have a small stock or are very cheap, like... cup of tea?

The problem with those items, though, is that there is no demand for them, and that hence there is no reason for the price to go up.

    Won't work, sorry.

This already happens, but not to whips.

Whips are dropping because of the PVP drops being taken out.

    Example:

    Before
    __

Down a whip. Whip taken out of economy. Not put back in.

    Now
    __

Down a whip, go sell it. Whip goes back into circulation as more continue to come in. GG whip prices.

Whip may rise again, as luring / killing green dragon botters won't get us any more whips.

This has been going on forever, and still is today. But the sad story is, everyone I know has moved to staking.
