What do you think of the CryptoKitty world? I think it's quite the opportunity to make money seeing as this shit just started.

If you're wondering what CryptoKitties are, they're basically like CryptoCollectables, not a CryptoCurrency. You use ETH to purchase CKs from either other users or from the developers themselves. You make more CKs by breeding. Each CK is completely unique from the other due to the genetic background of the game, as their genes encode for different phenotypes (characteristics) with up to 4 billion combinations. The value of a CK is determined entirely by the person selling them. The trend seems to be that those that are more aesthetically pleasing, have good genes that will pass down to their children, and most importantly have fast cooldown times for breeding are worth the most.

As it stands, I think the best way to make money off this at the moment would be to either flip CKs or breed them. Fast cooldown breeding CKs are selling for ridiculous amounts (10+ ETH), but their reproductive cooldown is just 1 minute (cooldowns range from 1 minute to 1 week after breeding), and you can put your CK up for "rent" basically so people pay to have their CK breed with yours, because parents and siblings cannot breed with each other (incest is wincest).

Later on, I assume people will begin to discover the required combinations to breed certain characteristics, which I think could do 1 of 2 things:
    1. Create a consensus market price for CKs with certain characteristics
    2. Ruin the game and make everything worthless
There's a lot of potential with this seeing as over $5M worth of CKs have been traded in the past day.

I am pretty sure I missed out on a fuck ton of things, as I literally just got into this like 30 minutes ago, but tell me what you think and if you have any questions (I probably won't be able to answer them but maybe someone else can). Have you started collecting/selling CKs and what have you been doing?

TL;DR you use ETH to buy unique "collectibles", breed them, and sell them so others can further breed them.

I don't see how these cats are worth anything. How is value attributed to certain phenotypes?

It's just like basic Mendelian genetics, you need to cross certain genes to get certain phenotypes. Some genes are rarer/harder to come by than others. And there is no real "value", it's all up to the seller. But you can already notice some general trends for what certain characteristics buy/sell for. Some guy fucked up and put a cat with a trait for 0.019 ETH that was worth ~0.3 ETH, and there's a lot of people that make mistakes like that.

I don't think they're "worth" anything, but there's definitely potential for money to be made here. I invested $50 worth of ETH and if my 3 purchases go through (ETH is taking forever rn because of this thing) I should make $140
