Corporal Punishment. Right or wrong?

Well, basically Im here to discuss corporal punishment, and wether or not you deem it justified.

Im not just talking about school related corporal punishment, Im also talking about spanking, and smacking your children (for any reason) at home.

I know that some parents see it as "a way to teach them a lesson", however I personally see it as abuse. What good are you doing by smacking around your child? In my opinion all thats doing is scaring them, and hurting them, not "teaching them a lesson". By smacking your child, what you might be doing it leading them to rebel because they feel hurt and abused, which will then lead them to act out even more. Therefore what your doing is completely useless and your actually helping the situation your trying to stop. I don't know, I just feel its wrong and completely pointless.
By the way, my parents NEVER laid a finger on me. They might have yelled at me MANY MANY times (when I was younger), but they never hit me. I learned, and now Im a good boy

Now, to the corporal punishment in the school environment. Im pretty sure this has stopped in most places, but there are some areas that still do it. This is completely wrong, what right do strangers have to hit children? I mean for g-d's sake, they are kids - yeah they're going to talk, nothing you could do. But again, hitting them does nothing either - I think that simply warning them, and then taking action (non abusive) would be more effective. Abuse at school could also lead to poor academics.

These are just my opinions on the issue, discuss.

 

There's rarely corporal punishment in the school systems, at least in New York. I agree that corporal punishment in the home is not deemed, on behalf of myself, justifiable. When you physically abuse or inflict pain on a child or young adult you are just harming them physically/mentally. Abusing your child isn't a deterrent for the child to no recommit the same action. Any physical punishment would lead to a strained relationship between parent and child. I would also assume that any corporal punishment in the schooling system would be permitted by the parents of the child, which is considered rare.

 

Well really how far does a child have to push and get yelled at to get smacked?
Most parents use it as a last resort.
I do belive it works its associating something they're doing thats bad with something they don't like.
It's how they know they're in trouble.
Parents don't go around smacking the fuck out of their children and leaving them with bruises or broken bones.
They give the child a light tap, child learns what they where doing was wrong, gets upset for a few minutes and then gets distracted by something else and forgets about it but remembers not to do what they where doing because they'll get smacked.
In a way young children are like dogs, LOL.



I do belive how ever if a parent is constently smacking they're child just for little things that it is wrong.
So really i think smacking a child is ok in moderation,like most things in life.

 

I was 'belted' when I was younger, and from personal experience it actually does work quite well. When I have children I will also use the belt on them if they are being naughty.
