    has anyone tried it yet?
i need to upgrade my proc, and id like to buy something a little more high-end. i have been looking at the Core i8 980x for a while, because obviously its something different.
i was wondering if any has purchased one and has some feedback for me.
i was also wondering if anyone has had any experience with overclocking it. im kind-of leery because the 6 cores get hot as shit as it is and i have yet to invest in liquid cooling.

    discuss?

I know grave has one of these bad boys. Ask him, he's literally in love with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's had sex with it before :p.

I think gurtaton might have one as well, but i'm not 100% sure.

Just get 1090T or something much cheaper, not much difference in gaming.
Unless u want to stretch your epenis with test programs and have lot of cash to spend, go ahead.

My friend has 980x and we have same GPUs, practically no difference (maybe couple FPS in the future when games use 6 cores.)

And rather get AM3 motherboard because it has more upgrade potential (Intel has loads of dying sockets.)

    ^ Yep, he does. I think it's a 930 or something.

On-topic: I don't have a 980X but I do have a 920, and I can tell you it's more than worth it if you have the money.

I don't think anyone on Sythe has it.

Never overclocked, sorry. I'm fine with my stock speed. But grave said he was going to, I'm not sure if he's done it or not yet. You can check out some overclocking guides on the internet, there's tons of them out there.

The temperatures are pretty much the same as a 975, that is, unless you overclock. If you do, it'll reach as high as 70 degrees with a decent air cooler if you OC it to around 4.7GHz. So if you're desperate to upgrade, I suggest you buy this, wait until you can get a decent water cooler, and then overclock.

Performance... I don't really need to say anything. This badass will rape almost anything you throw at it. The power consumptions are decent too, and it won't rob you out of your pocket.

That is exactly why people buy extreme editions... They're always future proof and OC well. You'd be amazed at the scores it gets while benchmarking with a decent graphics card. And I'm pretty sure he isn't planning on buying it just to browse the internet 24x7.

It's AMD BTW. And I personally like Intel motherboards more. My X58's been running for more than an year without any problem.

    -----------

So yeah, if you do anything really hardware intensive, this little jewel is for you. Good luck.

    It's AM3 socket btw.
And AMD will release more and more processors with lot cheaper prices on the same socket.
Sure Intel has better performance, but it all depends are you upgrading your CPU once a year or once in 3 years.

Didn't think you were talking about the sockets.
    So will Intel.
Most people usually upgrade after 3 years+ once they buy a high-end PC.

In the end, it all depends on what he's going to do with it, whether he's satisfied with it or not and how much he's willing to spend on it.

I've been upgrading my PC ever since I got it.

Thing runs smoother than the thermal paste atop the processor. Core i7 950.

I have the i7 720 and it owns pretty well so far. I'd bet the 980 is more then worth it.

Well, i have just purchased the proc online and i am waiting for it to be shipped to me. I have some experience with overclocking, so it shouldn't pose any problems to me. i currently am looking at new cases because the heatsink i will be purchasing will not fit...

and, he will be doing more than surfing the internet 24/7.

overall, i think i have made a good investment and hopefully will not have to buy a new proc for 3+ years if this one meets its oh-so-high standards.
