    "Constricted" Text Effect?

I was wondering how would you make part some text looked "constricted"? This may sound quite confusing but I'll explain it the best I can. Say you have some 3D text, about 75% down, how would you make that part thinner than the rest? Similar to the shape of an hourglass but not as thin. Thankyou.

Make object editable, increase the grid count, bring in the vertices to where you want it... Or something like that.

well it depends on what software you use. For me, I type in the font, as usual, change the font to a mesh, then split it twice where I want it constricted. Then you can select the 4 vertices you just made through splitting, shrink them. Then select in the options to set smooth, and done.
