    US Army ROTC?

    Hey Everyone.

I just started college about 4 weeks ago. I am studying Administration of Justice in school and I want to be a police officer at some point.

However, I have given the army ROTC program a lot of thought. However I really do not want to face one on one combat with an m16a4 vs an AK. But I would like to serve my country somehow.

I have spoken to the recruiter who has recommended that I do the national guard for the state that I am in and that it is a great opportunity. He said that a national guard MOS with a combat orientation would be extremely beneficial.

However I have a few questions for all you military buffs/past military/current military members.

    • 1. Which branch is least likely to deploy, US Army, National Guard, or Reserves? (I know it all depends on units mission etc, but which is least likely)
    • 2. What are some MOS's that will most likely not see as much combat in the field?
    • 3. Is there any information/videos you recommend I watch or specific sites that I look at in order to help me at all?

    All support/Information is much appreciated!

    Thanks everyone!

The only military people on sythe I know of are MohtasaUnique, n4n0 and PlzNate (although he's still in training I believe?) - you could try PMing this thread to get a quicker response.

    Ah okay thank you!

I'll contact them tomorrow, my phone is being a bit weird at the moment.

Does anyone else have any experience or knowledge that they can share with me?

I have not served the military, but had the same question as you. I have talked to many recruiters and by my understanding the National Guard is very lazy as in he doesn't travel much. I guess a lot military branches not including the air force think that the National Guards & air force are boring as hell.

well statistically speaking, over 90% of US National Guard members will deploy AT LEAST once in their 6+2 contract.

Not lazy tbh, they still have basic and PT tests each year.

I have talked to n4n0 and plznate, both of whom think that merely based off my questions I am not fit for the army. Any other thoughts?

I'm inclined to agree with N4n0 and plznate on this one.

People who join the military join it to defend our nation, and to stand up for what they believe in. They're not afraid to get dirty and are willing to risk their lives for our safety.

If you're trying to do this for the 'status' or what not of being in the military, but without any actual risk involved. I don't think it's the place for you.

However, if your intent is to serve this nation, then I say stick to what you're doing in college now, and become a police officer. That's just as rewarding.

Good luck with everything man, hope you figure it all out.

    US Army ROTC?

This is what I am thinking. I will probably do the 2 year US Army ROTC Basic, just to test the waters and such.

but believe me, I do not want to do it just for the uniform, I just can't see myself walking around some desert with an m4a1 carbine. That could just be me, but still I just can't see it.

I will definitely stick to what I am doing in college now and continue that until I earn my degree.

    Thanks for the help mates.

uh.... I thought we were talking about the united states army here.... then you said "mates".

Anyway, the amount that you get deployed depends on your contract. If you're reserves, you'll get deployed, if you're nation guard, you'll get deployed, if you're active duty, you'll get deployed, there's no way around it.

I know this. I just, when/if deployed wouldn't want to have to look down the sights and shoot at another person.

I can see myself doing it if in self-defense, but just to point and go bam bam and then move on would be difficult.

The fact that you'll see combat solely depends on your MOS. My friend is in the Army active duty and he's a mortician, and over there he's always doing stuff outside, and he got all of his weapons training, but he hasn't been shot at or has shot at anybody since he's been deployed and he's already been over there for 5 months, I personally haven't been deployed yet but my MOS is Cavalry Scout and I'll most likely see combat. Different MOS' have different probabilities.

Yes, cavalry is pretty intense man, best of luck there, stay safe.

What other MOS's are you less likely to have to walk out and shoot at others?

Regardless of his MOS, he's still a soldier, and he's still deployed in a combat zone. Though unlikely, the risk of the base being attacked is still there, and it's still possible he may experience a gunfight of some sort.

This also doesn't take into account how long he plans on staying in. If another war starts (which is likely w/ syria and north korea) - He could be deployed into a different area which is less secured and he could face attacks at any given time.

Are there administrative options where you may support the soldiers, but not necessarily over seas?

Before doing so, you should take some officially noticed personality tests like MBTI and/or Enneagram

Unless you're fit for the job, I highly recommend that you not take it.
Especially since you're a college man who's only choice is not the military.

In my country, the suicide rate of ROTC Lieutenants are very high. (Military service is mandatory in my country, so some people just decide to enroll in the ROTC programs)
