Computers: How to eliminate my lag?

    Hey Everyone,

Recently my laptop has been acting up and has been lagging when I try and type (so it types slow). I've tried to update my keyboard software but it cannot come up with updates. Also from time to time the entire computer will start to lag.

So, I've resulted to Sythe ;).

    Computer specs
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (32 bit)
Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU T2330 @ 1.6 GHz
    2 GB RAM

Lags when I run a bot from RSBots.net (even when I run it with the low-ram option).

Now please don't tell me to not bot as a solution .

    Thanks in advanced.

Whenever i start to lagg i always just run CC cleaner and usually that helps, if not then i go to more issues such as a virus scan, not sure about the whole RAM situation though.

Do not post if you don't know what you're talking about.

As for the original poster, your specs indicate that you should be able to bot without lagging (as long as you aren't trying to run multiple bots).

Perhaps you have some malware or spyware slowing down your computer or you have a poor connection.

If it is the former, I suggest you check the stickies under the Help & Requests section for tips on how to speed your computer up with freeware.

This has happened to me numerous times. The solution is to re-install Windows. But before you do it, try what Xeleration said. That might also be the problem.

What gfx card do you have? The RAM is fine, not positive the processor is good enough, however.

    It's a 1.6 Dual Core. It's more than enough.

Please stop posting if you don't know what you're talking about.

Alright, I'll try that out. Thanks!

I don't have the OS setup discs, but I couldn't most likely get them from a friend.

    :p

Thanks to you both, I'll give this a go and let you know what happens. :D

The main reason (I find) that peoples computers are running slow are because they have so much crap installed on them. I often log on peoples computers and find 80+ processes, and with a lower end cpu it really can't handle it.

go through your startup programs, remove some of those old files. Disk cleanup, defrag, you should be fine. If it's viral your best bet is to usually back up the computer until before you started having problems.

note I am not saying it is hard disk capacity, but the number of processes people have running all the time. Many programs (adobe in particular) are running all the time, when they should only run when requested

Yeah, I've been told my processes count is high. Currently: 96

My laptop is an acer and it has all this eTechnology stuff that I've never used before. I havn't deleted it because I thought the computer may need it, idk.

my computer is a 3.5 dual core and my processes are usually around 40-45... I highly recommend you do something about that.

go to control panel, and then programs. Remove what you think you can do without, then go under startup tasks and disable anything that you think you don't need on startup.

A great program for removing processes that start on startup is Autoruns, which you can find for free.

If you want to be lag free again, I suggest you reformat your Laptop. Also, if you want more performance, I suggest you upgrade to Windows 7 32bit (seeing as your ram is 2GB's". Other than that, you can try disabling eye candy, and turn off programs that you're not using.

Seriously, don't upgrade to Windows 7 with 2GB of RAM on a laptop. If you're having lag issues just downgrade to XP.

He has Windows Vista, so it should be faster for him, I've had a 1.8GHz AMD Athlon with 1GB of ram, and it ran Windows 7 completely fine.
