    Binaural beats

Binaural beats are two different tones, one in the left ear, one in the right. It works by playing two sounds at a certain frequency (Ex. 1000 Hz and 1005 Hz) and the brain records the difference in the frequencies as a third sound. This third sound represents brainwaves. This method can be used to induce lucid dreaming, to change your mood/feelings, to wake up, for medititation, and there are even programs (like I-doser) that (say they) can mimic the effect of drugs.

I've been very sceptic about binaural beats, especially I-doser (which turns out to be a total scam), but it did kept my interest. Last week I've been playing around with them, mostly trying to achieve a lucid dream the easy way. I discovered more about different brainwaves and the effects of them.

    These are the brainwaves:
    > 40 Hz Gamma waves Higher mental activity, including perception, problem solving, fear, and consciousness
13–40 Hz Beta waves Active, busy or anxious thinking and active concentration, arousal, cognition
7–13 Hz Alpha waves Relaxation (while awake), pre-sleep and pre-wake drowsiness
4–7 Hz Theta waves Dreams, deep meditation, REM sleep
< 4 Hz Delta waves Deep dreamless sleep, loss of body awareness

Binaural beats do not work as strong on me as they do on other people. I-doser doesn't work at all, same goes for other beats. Only the last 2 days I've noticed something happening when listening to these beats. I created my own simple beats and experimental beats (with Neuro Programmer 2) to fuck up my mind. The simple beats do something. If I change the frequency of the beat to a Gamma or Beta wave, I notice that I am much more awake than normal. When I play Theta or Delta waves I notice myself getting sleepy. This can ofcourse be a placebo-effect, but I slept like a daisy last night.

Has anybody else had any experience with binaural beats?
