Computer not turning on, just "revving" on and then off...

When I hit the power button the fan revs then the whole thing shuts down... I'v taken it apart and everything looks okay, but maybe I'm missing something. Any suggestions?

That is a good checklist I use when I have problems, also how much and what type of RAM do you have? Try switching RAM slots or only installing 1 stick to see if it boots. Also please post your parts.

 

That happens if stuff isn't installed correctly or if something is broken. Like when I put in my new ram, I didn't push them down hard enough so they were not in all the way and it was doing exactly what your describing.

 

Try swapping out the PSU. I had this exact problem like last year. I couldn't figure out what it was since I had all relatively new hardware. I swapped the PSU out and it worked perfectly.

 

Yeah, along with checking the RAM maybe check the hdd in a different computer, i've had malfunctioning drives do exactly what your describing too. Sometimes with the addition of a burnt smell, hah.
