    Compare yourself to a rock.

For those of you who are not familiar with the way human happiness works, I will try to explain it in very few words.

If you cut through all the things that happen to you in life you end up with two groups,

    -Positive
    -Negative

Or more accurately things that make you happy, or unhappy.

When something happens to you, you either categorize it as good or bad, (positive or negative)

So in order to achieve happiness a majority of thing that happen to you must be positive.

So now stop and think, If a human must make all these decisions to decide if they get to be happy or not, and a rock just sits there blatant and inanimate
which of the two is realy better off.

A rock doesn't need to think it just is.

A human needs to constantly make decisions that affect it's happiness.

    Discuss.

If I happened to be a rock. That'd suck.

But honestly, i'm not the emo type, but I would say that my life happiness is 50/50 with my unhappiness.

I'd be a rock since i don't get "happy" over many things but i take things that just happen but don't get "unhappy" over them.

Happy/Unhappiness is something that makes life work. Being a rock would be ok if you have an unhappy life

A rock doesn't care about sh*t. It is dead. Well it wasn't even alive. :D

Hmm must be fun to be a rock, getting thrown on people... Crushed to make stuff. :p
Poor rocky babies! They can't even reproduce. Sad.

dead means loss of life eg. You can't die if you never lived.

And you are all missing the big picture, the point is not to think heck a rock doesnt have to be unhappy.

The point is think is a rock really under us because it doesn;t have these gifts of decision.

    /half-sarcasm.

Although this topid brings up a good point - Generally, is the effort worth it?

That is dumb, life would not be great if you didn't have to make decisions, If planned out your entiire life all you had to do was live it, would you like it? Maybe if you like the things I did maybe, but otherwise you would be bored and unhappy. We lead the life we choose and choose to be miserable and that is what makes life great.

If you became a rock, would you necessarily know?

I don't consider rocks as living organisms. o_o
But yeah, it would suck to be a rock. But they wouldn't exactly know...

Yet if you were a rock you would not feel the urges humans feel.

Last time I checked rock's don't have a pineal gland.

Glad to see someone starts to undertand this.

    I see what you mean,
in that case i would still choose to be a human.

Even the most poor, most unhappy man can change his life in a matter of seconds.

It's just how you look at life.
A man cant imagine how it feels like to be a rock.
    That's how i look at it :)

Just because something is simple doesn't mean it is happy... If it is unaware of its unhappiness then it is thoughtless, Do you truly want to be ignorant to all pain in the world.

The correct answer is "I don't know sir"

Since you are letting human characteristics (Highlighted and repeated in order)

    Happiness
    Awareness
    Want

A rock has no urges to be happy, a rock has no need to be aware, A rock wants nothing.

Still you asked which is better off, something with no emotion, no life, with no hope, choices, or anytime of reason to be.

Or a person who endures hardships to overcome something through pain, and happiness. Even If I am miserable my entire life I can still say i had the option to be so.

    Compare yourself to a rock.

Your life must be such a tragedy. Young, and finding half of your life unhappy?

Biggest pile of bollocks I've ever heard, quite frankly.

    My life? 99.9% happiness.

And, as for the thread's topic is concerned, is it asking whether I'd rather spend my life as a rock, which is incapable of being unhappy or happy, or as a human, who could potentially spend a life filled with sorrow and agony, or happiness and joy?

If so, a human. I'd always take the risk.
