Welcome to June 2013's Sythe Monthly newsletter! A bit early this month.
It's been quite an eventful month I'm sure you'll agree. Promotions, bannings, unbannings, scammings, infractions and of course - competitions!
Let's get this week started with some headlining news.​

Promotions ahoy!​

Amethyst --> Amethyst

Was recently promoted to Off-Topic Moderator after years of dedication and activity in the section. It's fair to say this one was a well-deserved promotion. Do us proud!​

Wulfspade1 --> Wulfspade1

Re-promoted after some absence to Market, Runescape and Community moderator. He did a great job as Global previously and I'm sure he'll do just as good a job this time around.​

RwmRS2 --> Roary

Promoted to Global moderator and changed username. People might actually spell his username correctly from now on! Good job.​

RsProd --> RsProd

Was also promoted to Global moderator! This promotion was long due as RsProd was first promoted to sectional moderator two years prior. Keep it goin' champ.​

Recent downtime explanation.

Some of you may have noticed that Sythe recently suffered some downtime. The problem occurred due to one of the Sythe hosts being affected by a very serious zero-day attack which wiped out just over half Sythe's backend servers. Backups were restored and there should be no rollback effect, however, if you do experience anything odd or any technical difficulties, please let us know >here< and the administration team will deal with it as soon as possible.

No, I'm not Amethyst. Two lucky Sythe users got their hands on the exclusive Battleship Champion mini-rank after first place in the tournament (which was hosted on www.omgpop.com) was claimed by MoonGlare and second by Sellerman. Congratulations both! The Community Development Team will aim to have a new tournament every month. Stay tuned in the Community General section for more information.​

Notable user changes & accomplishments

Congratulations to everyone this month who has achieved a goal! We appreciate each and every one of your contributions to the Sythe community.

• Jatha donated a further $25 to become a $50 donor, enjoy your User Title!
• Chaseolio donated a further 50$ to become a 100$ donor after a controversial "you post I pay" thread (cheat ) as well as hit the 1,234 post count mark!
• win4fun is another achiever of a new post count milestone, attaining his Guru tag as well as 1,000 posts.
• Nytrix, our new Official Middleman, received his 1,000th vouch this month... but we all know middleman vouches are cheating!
• Feelgewd now has a whopping 600 vouches. Nytrix is still 1.6 times better than him !
• johng1208 Achieved the "Guru" tag with 1,000 posts, which is also the number of mini-ranks he owns.
• THERSG0D has provided many users with free signatures. He has now reached the 65 mark!

Member of the Month

Member of the Month has officially gone through an extensive revamp thanks to your feedback >here<, after 73% of you said you'd rather it continued as an integration of Sythe Monthly. As a team, we took on the criticism and have come up with a short list of names. You can find these names in the poll at the top of this thread, and the two most popular choices after a week of voting will receive the member of the month fun-rank for a month as well as permanent member of the month mini-ranks. Voting ends on the 6th of July!

The Nominees!

• Swadq - Although a fairly new member, Swadq is a community contributor.
  Regularly posting around the forums in a constructive way. This is how we like to see new members, keep it up!
• Chloecat - Seen regularly offering a helping hand in the Personal Support and Sythe.org Support sections, she's an asset to the users of Sythe.
• Nytrix - Our market nominee! Nytrix was recently promoted to Official Middleman and thus far, has lived up to the rank. Reaching 1,000 vouches this month, he deserves to be on our list.
• Amethyst - Our new moderator! Being promoted is a big deal and definitely worth showing off. Already busting out some killer moves in Report a Scammer and the Dispute sections in particular. A worthy place in this month's short-list.
• RsProd - Our new Global moderator has dedicated almost two years on Sythe staff and another year before that, RsProd is definitely worthy of a place here.

Q1. Sports, and lots of em. Mainly cricket during summer, hockey + skiing during winter.
Q2. Pretty happy with how everything turned out tbh.
If anything, I would've liked to have taken advantage of 07 coming out and made some bank.
That, and avoid getting scammed a few thousand $.​

Amethyst

Q1. I attend gigs, festivals, do alot of drinking at pubs and clubs, do dark age re-enactment and I like hiking!
Q2. I would have used a MM for my first few trades, and saved myself from getting scammed.​

Q1. PC Gaming, going to Concerts, and most importantly.... SLEEP!
Q2. I would have never scammed.​

Shoop

Q1. I'll try to keep it short.. Football (soccer for those Americans), Judo, Taekwondo, occasionally basketball and although it's not really a hobby I like keeping fit by jogging/working out etc.
Q2. I'm happy with how everything has turned out really.
I guess I would have liked to get more involved with the market, but if I did I'd probably have had less time with friends and my girlfriend etc. So I'd change nothing!​

Frenzy

Q1. Hanging out with friends and going to hookah lounges!
Q2. I wouldn't do anything differently ​

Q1. The one that stands out the most is playing Soccer :3
Q2. In all honesty I feel like everything that happened to me on Sythe was all perfectly timed.​

Q1. Playing basketball is one of my main hobbies. I pretty much just practice nothing but 3 pointers. I also like to go to the movies a lot as well.
Q2. I'd have gotten more active at the beginning of 2010 and also would have been smart enough not to buy any accounts, they all get recovered it seems. I'd be one of those guys who would have come in and donated $300 with 0 post count, that would have been cool. ​

Starting with the basics, how did you find Sythe and what were your intentions upon joining?
I found sythe initially through Covey's RS client "Eliteswitch" - The client had a built in IRC which was connected to the old sythe IRC at the time. There I met Govind, Giverny, TDD, Covey, Shredder, Tyro, Finn, Clash, and so many more. Initially I just lurked sythe. It took me a few months before I finally registered. Coincidentally enough, I was one of the people who convinced Verts to sign up.

Once I finally joined, I opened up a service thread which encompassed MMing, Skilling, and Questing (Found here: http://www.sythe.org/archives/309651-n4n0s-training-mming-services.html).

I did a lot of small MM's (Pins mostly) and a lot of questing/training jobs to start making a name for myself. Once the announcement of free trades removal was made, is when I fucked up. That's when I scammed (which was fully admitted to in my pardon).

You've been around for a while now. What has kept you around all these years?
Initially it was the market. Both back in '07 and when I returned in '11 with my GP shop. After that, it was my presence on staff. I thoroughly enjoy being on staff and I don't intend on going anywhere any time soon.

What did you think when you were first promoted?
I was initially asked whether or not I'd be interested by Verts, and immediately showed interest. The idea excited and intrigued me, and after the promotion actually went through, my goal was to just do the best I could, which is still my goal.

What are your main interests outside of Sythe? What do you enjoy doing?
Mostly gaming and live-streaming. I've been hooked on Path of Exile here as of late, and have been streaming it as well (www.twitch.tv/n4n0teh) - Aside from that, I frequent a lot of dubstep/electronic shows in Seattle and the surrounding venues (Lucky, Resolution, Kaskade, etc) with plans on going to Paradiso next weekend.

Do you work at the moment or have any sources of income?
I'm in the Army, stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington currently. I work as an IT Specialist/System Admin in the S6 of my unit.

Describe yourself in three words?
I am me.

What has been the strangest thing to ever happen to you?
I wouldn't exactly call it "strange" but I can definitely say one of my more memorable experiences is tripping on shrooms while wandering 5 miles down the busiest street in the town I grew up on, while deeply debating the meaning of life and the existence of mankind with my friend.

Just a note to everyone getting into the market and starting to use sythe:

Stick around. There are lifelong friends to be made, money to be made, and experiences to be had. I've been on Sythe for 6 years now, and I only regret a single day of it.​
