Is facebook going to charge $3.99 a month?

Well, are they? There are lots of rumors that they are. If you think they aren't going to please take this into consideration:

The main way Facebook makes their money is by the ads on the right.

Statistics:
The average payment for 1000 views of an ad is about $1
Facebook has 350 million active members
175 million log in every day
If they start charging they will lose an about 315 million users (90%)

Working out:

Now:
175,000,000 / 1000 = $175000 (a day for one ad)
There are three ads. So...
$175,000 x 3 = $525,000
Thats only if each time someone logs into Facebook they only view 1 page

So if they charge $3.99 a month:
$4 / 30 = 0.13 a day per user
350,000,000 / 100 x 10 = 35,000,000 users (10%)
35,000,000 x 0.13 = $4,550,000 (a day!)
17,500,000 / 1000 = $17,500
$4,550,000 + $17,500 = $4,567,500

Conclusion:
Now: $525,000
After: $4,585,000

But i think more people will go on there Facebook if they have to pay.

 

They can blow me if they think for 2 secs I'll give 1 damn cent to them.

these rumors are usually just groups trying to attract attention so they can either go "herp derp look at me my group has 2 million members" or so they can try to advertise their own ads to group members.

Yeah, I've seen groups like that, but like Matt said, it's usually to ad other groups and or there own YouTube videos. And no I haven't found and links/articles that writes about paying for it? Anyway, they bring it up, i'm going back to MySpace.

Yeah, there are alot of rumours saying that Facebook will start charging around July time I think it is, which is not going to happen. Facebook is the largest social networking site, and that would change dramatically if they started charging users to use the site.

There are alot of campaigning groups saying that 'We will NOT pay to use Facebook'.

 

These rumors are usually bullshit, theirs ones about MSN and stuff all the time...
Facebook is completely shit and boring IMO so they won't be getting $3.99 a month of me.

 

They won't charge $3.99 a month. They make more money being free than charging money. It's like assuming Google or YouTube will start charging monthly memberships.

It's just a silly rumor started by ignorant people.

 

I hate it now and if they start charging i wouldnt care ill just go back to my myspace no big deal.

I'm sure they get the 9 average page views per user which would be needed to make more than your 4.5m figure.

It would not be 90% it would be like 99%. If 9/10 of your friends left you would leave. It would cause a big chain reaction. So the 4.5m figure is probably much lower.

What about the amount of inactive users or duplicate accounts to take into consideration? (I have like 10 FB accounts I use for marketing).
