Common Duel Arena Scams for New Stakers to Avoid

I put together a few examples of common Duel Arena scams and how to avoid them for players new to staking. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to comment with unmentioned scams so I can add them to the list. Thanks! :)

NOTE: THIS FOCUSES MAINLY ON WHIP/DDS STAKING, HOWEVER IT CAN BE APPLIED TO BOXING AS WELL.

Hasta Scam: Opponent will sneak in a zamorakian hasta switching to it while being attacked for def bonus.
    • Always check opponents inventory before the stake. Make sure they have 28 free spaces, or 27 spaces if not all coins/tokens are in trade.
    • Carefully check the names of the trade/challenge request. Quite often players will trade from one account with a clean inventory when you're actually staking their other account with a VERY similar name.
    • Opponent places whip/tentacle in trade. Immediately decline the trade as the player is wielding the hasta.
    • Coins AND tokens in trade. Do not accept challenge unless player puts all tokens and coins in the trade.
    • Delay between opponent accepting trade/challenge. Make sure the player immediately accepts challenge from the trade window. They will often decline the trade, pick up their hasta they dropped, then accept the challenge.
Settings Change: You may be going into a whip stake while they disable/enable an option making it impossible/near impossible for you to win.
    • Save your preset settings and spam click on them until opponent has accepted challenge.
Fun Weapons Scam: The player will turn on only fun weapons and use a rubber chicken to slowly kill you whilst you can't attack. This follows up with settings change. As long as you spam click your settings this won't be an issue.
    • This scam is quite often set up through a low level account trading you flowers and a small amount of gp saying, "good luck".
Item/Gp Switching: The opponent will switch the item or amount of gold in the challenge window while you select settings hoping you won't notice.
    • The most common examples are you challenging someone "staking 37m" or switching 100m to 10m. Most of the time someone "staking 37m" is a scammer. They will show an Ags in the challenge while you select the settings and quickly swap out for a Bgs hoping you won't notice as they look very similar when not examined. Same applies for switching the amount of gp. ALWAYS examine the amount you're staking against to be sure it's the same.
Name Change Glitch (Hasn't been patched to my knowledge): Reddit thread - name glitch
    • "So you have 2 accounts 1 is say 99/99/99/99 and the other is 70/70/70/70 well you have the 70/70/70/70 one on eoc you use two bonds and double name change it (DONT LOGOUT) then you change your name and 07 on the 99/99/99/99 account to what the 70/70/70/70 accounts name used to be and the maxed account will have the stats of the lower account for 10 minutes before the delay in the rs3 and 07 servers update so for 10 minutes u can stake people and on highscores/osbuddy it will tell them that you are 70/70/70/70 when in reality you are maxed so they have no chance to win people are currently mass abusing this atm one is (lisp tanke3) look into that name and it should help you see how its done better since hes been doing it for hours now thats his current name atm has changed probably 30 times in the past hour cause of the 10 minute update timer. Well rs that is how you do it i guess make it where you cant be logged in when you change name and that should patch it" - tehantislayer 2007scape reddit
