Also, is it really worth the money? It's more fun to start from scratch with no financial help.

Two of my completionist accounts were banned and I might start over depending on how they add legacy mode, but paying for this game other than membership is definitely not worth it. Think it over.

You will get bored fast which takes the fun out of the game. It's your money, so do as you please.

Whether you want to record your progress is up to you. I think it will encourage you to venture further because of the motivation it adds.
