Someone made a thread about myspace ads etc and how they look at your details then place adds that interest you. I didn't want to 'gravedig' that thread since i got infracted last time i did that. So i'm going to post this thread where someone can help me out hopefully.

On myspace the adds are always about "Import Skylines" or "Cheap R33 Parts". I happen to own an R33 Skyline yet how would myspace know that i own one? I have it in my "about me" section but thats it. I just think its crazy how EVERY add i see refers to R33 skylines yet i remember they never did on my old myspaces i had which i made before i got a skyline.

So is this a coincidence or something else?

Does skyline have anything to do with R33? Im confused

It is like Google, they take the keywords out of your profiles or your past searches, such and make the ads more appealing to you.

This way they get more clicks.

Nowadays, everything about everyone is circulating around the internet. I don't think it'll have anything to do with Sythe.org, because I doubt there is a way for MySpace to know you are the poster on Sythe [they don't keylog you] -- unless they somehow have access to the IP's or something like that. However, if you've posted ANYTHING about it on MySpace, or even used the MySpace search tool for it, that's how it works.

As Python said, it's the same way with Google, E-mail, Facebook, etc.

MySpace uses a thing called HyperTargeting; http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-9810771-36.html, http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/features/july-dec07/social_11-07.html

Online communities sell your information to ad spiders. Change your sexual orientation to homosexual and all your ads will turn gay, literally.

yeah, i did that to a friend as a joke, and after i saved the settings all the ads on the sides were like " gay? looking for a partner? " and "Meet Bisexual Partners In Your Area!" it was pretty surprising to me at the time.

Ding ding ding.

This is the most legitimate explanation.

That is exactly how it works.

Uhh, thanks for reading my post? Seeing as that's basically exactly what I said (HyperTargeting) - he asked for whether or not it's a coincidence, and we explained ot him: NOPE. But it's not just online communities, it's anything that uses HyperTargeting or other targeting services [Google, some blogs, etc.]

You must have edited it, because when I read all the posts, I definitely did not see what I do now, in your post.
