    Chess and me

    About 7 months ago I picked up chess. I started out as a strong 600 elo on chess.com and now I'm a 1100+ after about 2300 blitz (3 and 5 minute games)*games.*

My only problem is that I don't know what this means. Am I good at chess? Bad? Average? I feel as if I'm slightly above average or proficient*since chess.com says I'm in the 61st percentile.*I know professionals rate above 2000, some 2500, but I am far from professional. Most pages say I'm still below novice, but I hardly consider any player above 900 "new or inexperienced" as the definition of novice portrays... The kids in the movie "Finding Bobby Fischer" were all below 1000 as one of the quotes said... And they made a movie about it lol.*

I find the game truly exciting. I can feel adrenaline pumping when I know my opponent makes a bad move or miscalculates a move. The complexity of the game is amazing, which is why I picked it up. I noticed when I'm in the middle of a game I almost enter a whole new world. I feel as if all I can focus on is the game, and nothing else. Sound, peripheral vision, and other senses seem to diminish in a heated game.*

So yeah, any other nerds out there? Anyone wanna play?

You are bad, no offence, Bobby fischer must have been a 2000 elo player when he was a kid.
To get a sense of what your level is.
You are worse than half of the players in the world
The best human player is at 2900 ELO
The best machine has a 3300 ELO
No one has ever beaen the best machine.
The chances of you beating a 1400 player is about 1 in 10.
The chances of you beating a 1600 player is about 1 in 100
The average score is 1400 I think.

Being in the 61st percentile is significantly better than half the players in the world, no? Unless you're rounding down 11%. Either way, that would be average, not bad. Bobby Fischer was a trained professional, even as a kid. I just started 6 months ago and I'm 24 lol.
