How to Create a Stopmotion [Examples at the Bottom!]

Hopefully this guide will teach you how to successfully create a stopmotion.

Requirements:

1. A Webcam.
2. Something you would like to make move.
3. Some creative influences.

Step 1:

Alright well, if you have a decent webcam, that can take pictures, then you should be set. Here is a picture of a suitable webcam:



Step 2:

Now, your webcam should come with a program that you put on your computer. If you open this program, and there is an option to 'Video Stitch' then you're absolutely golden.

Step 3:

What you want to do to achieve a good stopmotion, is take something that you would like to move, and take a picture of it with your webcam.

Once you have a picture, then move that object a little bit, wherever you want the object to move to, do, etc.

Once you move it a small amount, you can take another picture.

This process can be very very tedious, especially if you are making a longer video.



Step 4:

Once you have your desired pictures, you highlight them all, and click video stitch.



You should see something like this:



Normally, I like to keep my frames per second pretty high because that way it doesn't look choppy or hurt your eyes when you watch it. I usually set it at 15-20. You can also rename your stitch here.

Step 5:

Once you have everything set the way you want it, hit OK, and it might take a bit for it to stitch, but once it does, you will be able to view it right from there.

Nice guide. It takes a long time to make stop motion videos. I remember some guy doing that for a silkroad video. It took him a week or so to finish it off.

 

I've spent over 6 hours on a 1 and a half minute video once. I can't post that video here though. Has my last name on it.

The difficulty definitely increases when you start using a digital camera. Webcams are great for beginners.
