If it comes to 1-31 prayer cape defence is completely useless, only good thing is ability to wear black dhide body

 

Would have max gear , including Anguish/Karils top and bottom and anything of your prefrence that would make it easier, which im sure would make it 1000x easier than a 1 def cape

 

The gear setup is absolutely the same with exception of black d'hide body instead of rangers tunic and stuff you mentioned above is stuff that'll be used regardless
For 1-31 prayer capes in my service I provide gear, pots and ammo, so all you need is 3k sweets if you're paying with RSGP, if you're looking to pay with real life cash they are already included in price
Karil top and bottom have exactly same ranged bonus as black d'hides so it's not really worth it

Second what Zuzel said BTWm high defence saves maybe a total of 10 mins max with better range bonus and increased laziness on eating for anything but the 360's (for which defence makes 0 difference), but it's essentially exactly the same as a 1 def cape.
