A few outspoken people have request a list of my suggestions, and so I shall.

1. Admins need to be more actively involved in the community, and should be doing their best to work towards the progression and growth of sythe.

2. Upgrade to VB4

3. Put a feedback system in place

4. Look into other plugins and features such as the bump timer

5. Advertise

6. Expand upon markets other than the RS market

I have already backed up and explained these suggestions in my previous thread. I realize I am just going to get the same flood of rage and "denied"s from the previous threads, but this is what you wanted, so here it is.

 

Support.

Sythe has a potential for greatness. Right now we have a meh-sized userbase and the forum looks like it was made in fucking 2006.

I agreed with the previous threads.

But despite how much support this is going to get, it isn't going to happen, and I'll tell you why. It takes too much effort.

I just don't think anyone with the power to implement change like this gives a shit enough to.

 

I hate the look of most new forums. I mean: http://www.powerbot.org/community/ is ugly as fucking hell. We will also have new skins once Richard rolls out vB4.

 

Was that hard?

1. I can't comment on this one, sorry.

2. Support, I want VB4 too. Only Richard can do the final things for it, when he plans to get it finished I have no idea, I would have thought sometime over the summer is my best guess. I have seen a screenie of VB4, and there is a remarkable and impressive difference to what we have now. I'm not super agitated by this VB theme though.

3. I don't know if that would get used, but if others wanted it and it went on to be successful, then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

4. You only mentioned one plugin/feature, so I can only comment on one. I never use the Market, but a bump system in place would be very nice to have. I have a feeling some would complain about it as getting post count wouldn't be able to simply come from 'bump' anymore. Support that it comes after VB4 is set up and in place. Can you think of any other plugin/features you think would benefit the site?

5. A little bit wouldn't hurt, but Richard has stated the results from previous advertisement attempts have been poor. Still, it's been a good few years since then. I don't think it would hurt to try some advertising and see the results.

6. You mentioned Diablo and such before, the Market for that is fine already, it only needs more attention and users to it. Again advertisement comes into this. Aside from Diablo, what other games do you think have a potential for Sythe?

That was my home for several years before I was permabanned for a bullshit reason(mods have sticks up their asses, I actually just got the ban lifted so I'll probably move back).

Look at that forum design. Gorgeous. It leaves a lot to be desired when you move from that site to Sythe. This forum could learn a lot from that one.

Powerbot does look ugly. Too minimalist.

 

I'm not a fan of light skins. The custom icons for each forum is a nice touch. We could easily do that here as we have plenty of people who could make them, once we vB4 is rolled out, of course.

 

Custom icons would just annoy the hell out of me, if they were ever implemented, I'd like the option to be there to make them still images.

 

Yeah, it'd be nice if they had a black option for their skin.

Some of their plugins are great though. They have an option to rate posts. Funny, Winner, Dumb, Zing, etc. It really helps to cut down on spam because it allows users to share their opinion without having to clog up the thread with some stupid response.

They also have the ticker showing recent bans and new posts and such. Popular threads, list of threads you recently viewed, etc. All that is stuff I'd love to see move over here.

 

I'd actually like to see the stats on here for banned users and such, be really interesting to see how many people have been banned for the site. For that I think it would just be a simple matter of enabling it.

Well, their ticker actively updates itself, showing posts in new threads by which user, who banned who for what reason, who closed what thread for what reason, when a new user joins, etc.

That's me, in my ban thread from months back, but as you can see in the bottom left you have icons for Operating System, Browser, then a button for previous bans and closed threads, and a button to report the post. Rest is self explanatory.

Then we have the ratings and such...



Anyways, I'm kind of straying off the topic, I'm just saying that OP is right saying Sythe is getting behind, and a lot of little things could really improve the UI.

 

1) I bet we can do that.

2) We don't want a post feedback system.

3) vB4 has more stats I believe.

But this is getting off topic.

 

See now I can take it one bit at a time
1. I think they are doing fine tbh - they don't particularly have to overdo themselves in order to meet what needs to be done but there is no reasonable way to measure community involvement excepting measuring the amount of posts made - and you weren't in favor of that

2. Yup - I'm expecting it's pretty close to done by now, and the new theme looks beast

3. I'd like some sort of transaction / market system on the condition that it can easily import vouches or something similar. We already have vouches and letting everybody start from scratch is a bad idea

4. Sure, suggest other features you'd like to see then

5. Where? How much? What type?

6. What are logical ways to do this beyond simply advertising - that's a good first step but there should be more

I support this. It's complicated, but I do support them having a more community involved role (or maybe just more visible) - Not a big deal in my opinion though... Our other staff do more than enough to make up for a few admins not posting constantly.

God knows I support this, but It's in the works. I'd like some updates if possible!

Another big support - I think if we had a feedback system (NOT a rep system) It would be great for the community

I support this, more in the way that constantly improving the technology behind sythe should be a big priority

If you pick up your attitude a little bit, you'll see that the majority of us support many of your ideas...

If you go back to the previous thread then he explains it all. Gold buying and selling sites, other forums and stuff like that. I mean he posted the other thread so people wouldn't ask these questions. It is detailed on what all he wants people but people didn't want details they wanted a tl;dr.

I agree with everything. I would really like to see the tech advancement most though because Sythe really, really needs that.

 

From all you're suggestions, I personally think no matter how fancy and tech-savvy we make Sythe, it won't attract new people; nor will the participating of Admins within the community. I mean, I personally don't join a forum based on Admin activity.

Advertising/Expanding current and new markets, and then advertising those, I find will attract more users and will have a significant effect.

Yeh, and in regards to Lee's post, I think that the tech improvements are just that - Improvements.

Maybe Sythe does need some improvements, and even if they aren't absolutely necessary, it'd be nice to have them.

 

Upgrading to VB4 is not a suggestion at all, its a mere complaint that it is not released yet.

It is not due to laziness that it has not been released, it is due to the fact that there is a lot of work associated with the release of VB4, not just with the actual manpower with regards to doing to programming, but also making sure that everything is running smoothly and it is ready for release. If it gets released early and somehow someone gets access to something they shouldn't, lets say, a database leak, there will be negative feedback about that as well. If you really want an unfinished and therefore harmful piece of work to be released, please suggest that.
