    History/Religion question

    I wasn't entirely sure where to ask for information regarding this particular subject, if this is the incorrect place please direct me towards the appropriate spot.

    I am looking for information regarding "The Papist Devil". As I have already discovered myself, he was a figure created from a Reformation handbill against Pope Alexander VI, in the late 15th century.

    I'm basically looking for all the information anyone has on him.

    Why
    Who
    How, etc. All possible information, for personal use, nothing more.

    History/Religion question

    Since apparently no one has an idea who this character even is.. With the research I've done;

    It is a caricature of a Pope who was known for his corrupt excesses. Created as a politically motivated cartoon representing the problems in the hierarchy of the Catholic church because Martin Luther and his reformist followers came to believe the pope was the antichrist. As the devil was working from within the church images like this one, were designed to show as graphically as possible, to those who could read and those who couldn't, what Luther and the reformists thought of the papacy. It got out by proselytizing on a street corner giving out handbills (or flyers) to passerby is a way to distribute your message out to the general public and is still done in many places today..

    Perhaps if anyone has anything else to add, anything at all, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for everyone's interpretations and direct meaning.
