Looking to learn a bit...

Alright, I'm looking to make my beginning in the GFX section but before making this, I'd like to know what programs are you guys using to do the following things:

Signature, thread layouts, avatar and etc.
Video editing


I use Photoshop for signatures, thread layouts and etc. but sometimes, I have problems knowing which dimensions I should use and finding some good brushes.

Signatures, thread layouts, avatars etc. I make in photoshop cs5 and cinema4D R12.
Video editting I do in Adobe After Effects, Sony Vegas and Cinema4D R12, even tho I don't do those at this moment.

Could you help me out with making my signature and things like this nicer?
Because the last one I did looked like this and first look, I think it's not that bad but when I keep on looking at it, I think something's missing but I don't know what...

Erm.. random images all over the place makes it look strange. And also that isn't a signature, it's way too big.
