Why do people scam?

Whenever I try to sell rsgp here I get 3-5 invites from a scammer impersonating a trusted member. I usually just block them, but I got bored and decided to ask why the person wanted to scam me for an extremely small amount of gold.. this is what he said:

Lol are you going to let me scam you or what? What a fricken idiot. That person probably has nothing better to do in life.

 

People like to make money without losing anything. Its how people work.

The thing is that when most people say that there are a lot of scammers here, they're generally wrong- It's the same ones over and over.
Knowing this, there would be a finite amount of scammers, but when more and more start scamming the legitimate people, it's the rage and the whole "I don't even care anymore" feeling that would incline scammers to replicate.

It works similarly to suicide. The pain one feels in the moment before suicide is about a 15 minute window. This window is where they aren't thinking, and they won't give into reason when they're alone. When approached by other people or given reason or incentive to live (To not scam, in this case) they would normally calm down.

The actual kick is when they succeed. It's rewarding for them and they made more than they lost with minimal effort. It would only make sense for them to scam, ban evade, and repeat.

I would also imagine that a scammer wouldn't scam if they hear or speak to the person they scam in a Skype call or anything. There are a number of times where I've been constantly ridiculed over Skype and when I just start to get that dull tone of voice or sounding upset/depressed- It would stop and the moment would get awkward. This is why when I *rarely* trade, I would sometimes request to talk over a call if they're from America and if they seem to be shady, though I would never say that of course. I could always say "It's easy tor record the trade and neither of us have a loss."

I'm pretty sure I was REALLY redundant in my reasoning but that's mostly it.

 

It's pretty pathetic that people try to scam for such low amounts. I personally posted on BSGP's thread and got 5 BSGP wanna-bes adding me over skype. Problem is, it makes it much harder to determine whether the person you are trading with is the real deal or just another imposter.

 

People who got money or goods from someone by tricking them once, then they would do again, it's just like Drug-taking made people addiction . I had to say credit was more important than others, because health,money,house... that all could be stolen, but the credit never be stolen, it's in the heart, it's the real thing! Cheaters didn't have credit, poor things!

 

Personally, I would say lack of maturity as they clearly don't find it fitting to work a part-time job whilst attending school, college, etc. And spend their own money on whatever it is they purchase. In terms of Runescape accounts, it's saving them the hassle of digging into their own pocket for GP and money to reach their certain set of goals. I would classify the second portion of what I say into laziness. This applies to the minors mainly, virtual trading is frowned upon by parents so rather than having Mom and Dad have a conniption fit when there's a $200 charge on their credit card from "Gold 4 Fun." Teenagers would much rather lurk under their parents radar by intuitively obtaining the virtual goods they desire, without having to deal with the parental hassle that normally would come to follow. It's a case to case scenario though, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a handful of members scam because it gives them some sort of "rush."

 

Because they can, and they have no morals. some people scam people just for the fun, normally when someone is scamming you they say that they come from Nigeria, they also say that they view your profile.,,,,

 

Scamming makes it easier for them, but i rather wonder whether they sleep soundly at night seemingly as they stole someone's hard-earned money and just wasted it, its far better to not scam in the long run than in the short, They usually do not have ethnic morals and decide to scam, if they succeed they get '' high '' and so they are addicted to it, then he tries to scam other people and does it again, over and over, its the same as stealing money from someone on the street, its MONEY we are talking about, not pixels.

 

Always ask for a PM. Impostors run off at that point. The really sad thing is, people do it for the same reasons as stealing. An adrenaline rush. I've never scammed, as I never could. Same reason why I've never stolen.

You should just use a mm in the future. I know easier than said but it is a great alliterative and to answer your question I think he scams because it makes him feel good knowing he got something for free.. I dunno, never been in the mind of one

 

Some people get pleasure out of it. Doesn't matter where you go in life, if someone can find a way to get something without paying for it they will.

 

Because people are lazy. They like the idea of scamming as being money for nothing but in reality with the time they have to imposter finding a susceptible victim or by posting around on sythe "gaining trust" they could have earned way more than the scam total they get by doing an honest days work. In short, being legit is a better way of making money.

Some people are just sad and need to feel 'superior' to the other. Seems a little like the same concept as bullying.

 

Scammers in short have no respect for people or their possessions. I believe that every scammer's mindset is different as to what lead them to turn to scamming. Some people just get the adrenaline from being a crook... kind of like politicians.

 

Now that I've read this, I think that we should start being nice to a certain star member he'll most likely ragequit and may scam a huge amount of money..
