You tell me- just look at the most recent mass shooting at the Navy Yard in DC. The perpetrator was mentally unstable, (a couple weeks prior to the shooting he kept complaining of hearing voices in his head), was in debt up to his neck, and was arrested like 3 times before the shooting. Hell, he even was arrested after he shot his gun through the roof of his apartment. The guns he used in the massacre were all purchased legally.

There needs to be a ban on all assault weapons and stricter background checks, as well as longer waiting periods to obtain a gun.

background checks are 100% accurate, a federal company checks to see if the person is a felon. Anyone can purchase a gun with small misdemeanors (i believe). Just because of a small crime does not limit ones second amendment rights, but a crime that carries a year + in jail and a fine of $1,000+ can inhibit this right.

Personally, I am okay with a SHORT waiting period, like 3-7 days, just to make sure you aren't buying a gun in the heat of the moment, but to make someone wait one month to acquire a firearm is outrageous.

 

A reasonable person could wait a month, because they could plan that far ahead. If hunting season is at the beginning of November I would go out now, start the process, and have my gun ready by then.

What I want to see changed is the tradeshow loopholes that allows pretty much all forms of weaponry sold with no background checks or anything like that.

 

What happens if you are in the middle of hunting season and your gun breaks beyond minor repairs?

 

Well hunting season generally is short period of time anyway, so any waiting period would nullify the rest of your hunting season. Generally though, most gun owners have more than a single weapon.

 

How exactly does a month waiting period solve the issue of people shooting people or other violent crimes? Most of these crimes aren't people going off buying a gun and then 2 days later shooting people. They usually already have a gun and it starts from there.

 

Nobody needs a gun. It's fucking stupid.

EDIT: I realise most of Sythe is American, and you guys love guns. But this is something I feel strongly about, and I can guarantee that if guns weren't readily available, a lot of the gun-related crime would stop dead in the water. Obviously mentally unstable will remain that way whether they have a gun or not, but at least they can't shoot somebody, right?

 

There has NEVER been a single instance of a licensed FFL dealer selling a gun without a background check. If someone does a PRIVATE sale, then as long as they "know the person to a reasonable extent" (leave that up to interpretation), then they can sell it without a bkgrd check, only licensed dealers can.

You're so totally right! Right after we ban all guns we should make laws against cocaine and heroin too! Then that will help prevent all gang crime.


It has been said by many police officers that a knife is more dangerous than a gun.
1) It requires little to no training to stab someone with a knife
2) A knife does not run out of ammo
3) in most cases a knife is more easily concealable than a gun

When I first learned about American gun control in my 3rd/4th year of highschool - you've no idea how shocked I was at how easy it was for someone to get a gun. I don't have specific ideals, I'm no expert at even owning a gun in the UK. But there's honestly no need for so many guns.

 

I believe there should be a prohibition on guns. World peace. Near impossible but such a world would be beautiful!

 

I completely disagree. In most states it is quite hard/time consuming to get a gun legally. From permits to FID cards to CCW permits.

Where are you from? The UK or NZ?

I feel like I heard in NZ it was easy to get handguns? I could be mistaken though. Not 100% on foreign gun laws.

As for no need for guns, if someone breaks in my house, they're fucked, they won't be able to steal my shit if I am there. Also my gunsafe is in a cabinet in my room, the cabinet has a lock and the gunsafe is "tamper proof" and has an electric 10-digit-combo. So there is no reason for security concerns.

 

Or if the soldiers on the base were allowed to carry guns, the guy would have been dead before he had done much harm at all.

If everyone had a gun, there would barely be 1 person getting killed in the first place, because if you killed someone, people would pull their guns on you, granted there would need to be a lot of training.
