Can an admin explain reasoning behind 500 private messages?

Assumptions:

• There are a maximum of 10,000 donors (way overshooting it)
• Each Private message takes up 1.5KB of space (maximum average download size)
• Each donor is currently using 500 messages (full box, again, overshooting)
• Hard disk space is pretty cheap

This would mean that:
7.32GB maximum of space is being used for private messages
The true amount should probably be way closer to 1GB

Possible Counter-Arguments

• It'd be hard to implement: since you would just be changing the PM box space for all donors, it can be done within minutes
• Database slows down: this can actually be true and a possible reason, but can someone go in depth? I thought it was only true with super large threads, and private messages barely get "loaded" up

I don't know. I would just love to have a larger private message box. I'm not used to be throttled, and private messages are a very important part to safety in a trading community. I would be willing to pay more, or even willing to pay for necessary upgrades to increase the size for all donors if the admins are too lazy to make a third usergroup for larger donors.

 

Seems like a valid request, would be a decent benefit for higher donors I guess.

 

Would be nice as a donation benefit. We need more of those.

 

I think for $300 donor's it could be the other bonus we were looking for, or as a higher donator perk.

 

Would be nice, my inbox has like 230 messages at the moment. I never know when I might need them, maybe if a bigger inbox was offered it would prompt me to donate.

They may increase it to 1000, but once its full at 1000, then you still have to go back and deleted the 950 messages you only read once.

 

Well I wouldn't mind it going up because even for globals 2k seems kinda low. I guess more space for $300+ or $500+ Donors wouldn't be bad.

BTW didn't we have higher donor perks being discussed like 6 months ago.

 

If you want to save messages you make folders and then you can just clear your inbox with those you don't need. Simple. Still, it'd be nice.

 

So... the more rows in a database, the slower the queries of course.

But, I support, as an OMM I'm entitled to 1000 but I'd love to have to worry about it less, specially when I wasn't OMM, 500 was a bitch.

Plus, it's not like every single donor has more then 50% or more filled.

 

Yeah, I just had to go through and delete a bunch, so support this idea. It would be another reason for me to donate more.

Yea, 500 is far too little. 750-1000 would be great for $300+. I generally have to delete 50 msgs a day, to keep room for new one.

 

I feel like this would be cool for a total of about two weeks and then people would procrastinate a little. People would be at 950 in their inbox and then be deleting 50 a day just to leave room. -.-

 

I've "deleted the ones I don't need" for a few years and now I need all of them. I end up deleting private messages for large trades to make room for a lousy little "I'm trading with you" private message. It's reached a point where if someone is only trading like 200M with me I tell them to fuck off if they ask for a PM.

Right, but I don't think it will be a drastic increase. Only a small portion of the userbase are donors, and with the millions of posts we have, I bet an increase would only add maybe 100,000 or less rows.

I'm going to attempt to get OMM now.

Ehh, I'd settle for that but I'd prefer like 10,000.

 

I'm sure refusing a PM is TWC worthy? Or am I mistaken. Anyhow, I'm sure you could just back them up to your computer via screenshots, that stops you from needing them saved, as you can access them if you're banned aswell then.

It's always people on my website that ask for it, and it's usually faggots who want to sell only 100-200M so it's definitely not worth my royal time-.- I already cover all damages caused on my website anyway, so no PM necessary. If my site ever gets hacked I'd be held accountable.

Oh by the way, the reason I stopped deleting them is because moderators told me that the exported PM logs are not considered proof since they can be "easily edited" and I'm not taking 500 screenshots.
