Will it Work?

Okay, I have a first generation iPod touch. It has a load of scratches on the touch screen, and it's really making me mad. So, I decided to SSH into the root of my iPod and delete everything. At the moment, it powers up to the apple button for about 30 seconds, turns off for a second, and turns on again. Why did I do this, you ask? Well, I wanted a new one. I read in Apple's warranty that you can be refunded the amount that you paid for your product if there is a hardware problem, and I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem. My warranty expires at the end of March, when it was $300. So, I thought I would just get refunded my money and buy a 2nd generation one. So, here's my plan:

• Brick iPod touch
• Bring to Apple store
• Refund for $300
• Buy new iPod touch

Do you think it will work?

 

You need to read the warrantly paper closely. If it breaks by YOUR fault, I don't think you can get a refund.

People really don't know how warranty works nowadays. Haha, it looks like manufacturers might make a fortune from people like you.

Probably not and you shouldnt of messed with something you didnt know what you were doing...

If you want to be a real dick then you can buy a new one put the broken one in the box and try taking it back :S

Don't break it. Warranty doesn't cover breakage.

 

Warranty may not cover that. Have you tried to jailbreak it? If you tried a different jailbreaking software it could possibly bring it back to life. If you can't do that, remove all of the software and reinstall it. Even if none of that works, you can probably go to Apple directly and get that one fixed but your probably not going to get $300. Besides 2.2 software for the iPod Touch is shit.

 

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. Loren, I intentionally deleted all of my apps. I just got back from Best Buy, and they had no clue what to do, so they gave me a new 2nd generation

Yeah, I am. The thing is 90% of the people at Best Buy know nothing about electronics. It just sat with the apple logo on and occasionally shut off, so they gave me a new one and sent it to Apple in Dallas Texas to see if it can be refurbished. Lol.

 

try to take it back bricked, if that dont work buy a new one 10 days later take old one in the new box back ^^

I'd say it depends who is at the service desk when you go, weither they know what they are doing or not.
