Religion = longest lasting business + best moneymaker?

Religion has existed for thousands of years, with the most well known one, Christianity, lasting for 2000 years. Since the creation of religion, the holy men and women have received millions upon millions of dollars through donations to help their God(s).

What if the original purpose of religion was to make money? Discuss.

 

Well some churches are corrupt. But I know for one... Even in some of the "Big" churches the staff gets poor wages.

Alot of money is going into the church to expand it. Everying about a church costs money. Electricity, staff, even the bullitins.

After all of this there is hardly any money left over.

Yes, some churches are corrupt but this is very few. 99% goes to the church to help expand it.

 

What I'm talking about is the original purpose of religion in general.

For example, the Protestant Reformation was started due to churches buying and selling church positions.

 

This is a weird qestion...

Each religion has a purpose... What you said had to do with church corruption.

 

Perhaps the "purpose" is there to mask the original purpose: to generate income?

 

Like i said 99% of the income goes to the chuch to expand it.

I know that many many many churchs have pastors with a bad salery.

 

Not just churches, but the original purpose of religion.

How do you know religion was meant for helping others? What if that was merely a smokescreen to cover up the moneymaking side of religion?
