How to Sell safely with Paypal?

I know chargebacks will be strong when selling gold via Paypal. Any easy ways to prevent it or what precautions should I take?

Was thinking of having 2 seperate accounts.
1 receives the money then sends it right away to the other one so if chargebacked it won't effect anything.
Probably illegal though

 

If you did this and they charged back your balance would become negative and you'd have to pay it off if it is a legitimate paypal. And I wouldn't use an illegitimate one, so don't do that.

Sellers use a lot of precautions like only selling to users with verified paypals, verifying a state issued (or whatever foreign countries use) ID, requiring the email is forwarded, specific text in the message that states they will not charge back, etc. Even still, chargebacks will occur. I've never been in a chargeback situation, but I would imagine if you had solid feedback over time or a long standing PayPal account that had no issues that you would not lose the dispute. Obviously there are some situations where you could lose.

I would say use your best judgment when dealing with users and try to sell to those you deem trusted, or find another method of payment. The only two major downsides of bitcoin that I can see are 1. that not a lot of people have it and 2. $100 can be $70 in a matter of minutes, slightly exaggerated, but also highly possible at the same time.

 

First off, remember that no matter what, it's very possible that you can get charged back and lose, which is why a lot of people prefer to just accept BTC. Despite that, there are a few things you can do to help you out

1) Make sure they own the account, which includes getting a picture of ID and getting the email forwarded. Do both of those before you give the gold.

2) I personally have everyone confirm that I can't charge back the gold, so there's no reason for them to charge me back, in addition to that, try to confirm that they've received the gold.

If you do these 2 things, it'll be fairly rare a charge back succeeds against you. However, always use caution, if a 1 post newcomer comes up to you you may not want to trade with him.

 

It should be fair to require that members confirm that they've received the gold and if they don't then they get TWC, given that the seller has that requirement.

edit: but I guess that doesn't help with paypal at all. Maybe if it were in PM, but still editable.

 

The evidence would still go slightly in your way if you're communicating with them, they confirm that you're trading with them and put up the gold, then they stop responding. Makes them look very suspicious.

 

I can confirm that this does happen. If you're left in a negative balance for a long time and you don't repay the debt, PayPal hands it over to another business who tracks you down and makes you repay.

 

Those are called collections agencies. An agency tried to track me down for a hospital bill of $45 which was then turned to $240 after interest. I called them and told them up and told them I wasn't 18 at the time and it was illegal for them to carry a collection of me. ^_^

 

You could ask for their ID which would help with chargebacks.

 

I've lost too many chargebacks even while I still had their ID. Idk what Paypal even looks at when considering these disputes lol.

Yeah, the same happens with PayPal. You end up paying a load more and can potentially do some damage to your credit score.

The key issue being, PayPal don't like to support virtual transactions, so I.D. doesn't really hurt.
