The guide to becomming a winning poker player.

    Dear Sythe users!

This is my, Kfjjjdsz's guide to becoming a winning player in either real life OR online poker!

First of all, learn out a poker game well, that you understand and enjoy playing. Once you've found that game and learned all the general rules about the hand rankings the general practices, find a place to play. KEEP IN MIND: NEVER try playing in high stakes as beginning.

The second step to becoming a good poker player, learn good bankroll management. Bankroll management means if you for example have $100 either online or decide to spend $100 on poker in a casino, you should in no case enter a tournament with more then 5% of your bankroll. This is so that if you get eliminated a few times you won't go broke. In cash games if any pot reaches 10% of your bankroll you should leave. It's too high stakes for you. (The money on the table in the middle of the hand is called pot).

Third step: Watch professionals playing. You can always learn something new from professionals playing poker. Here I don't mean any TV shows where they show only about 20 hands out of the 400 hands that the poker players played, this will not help at all. What I mean here is, go for example on www.pokertube.com or www.youtube.com and see videos such as: Poker after dark, High Stakes Poker.

Your fourth step to becoming a winning poker player is trying yourself in the action. Go find a table either online or in a casino that you find good at first sight
    .

Fifth step: Always pay attention to what happens around you! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Try to have as good reads on your opponents as you can. Listen to patterns they might make, mistakes they do, try to gain advantage from them. For example if you see that there is a player on seat #4 who bluffs only little $ into the big pots, you can assume he is doing it on purpose so he has a hand, or he is bluffing again. After some time you should feel how it's going.

Sixth step: Learn a poker style. This means in what style you play poker. Some of the best known styles are:
Tight-Agressive: A player who will not bet often but will be agressive when he does.
Tight-Passive: A player who will try to wait for the best possible hand (nuts) and try to get paid out.
Loose-Passive: A player who will bet often but will try to wait for the best hand also. (probably the worse style to play in.)
Loose-Agressive: Will bet anything, also labeled as "on tilt". Only play against this type of player when you have a very strong hand or you know you will not fold your hand, because he / she won't give up bluffing.

Your seventh and final step to becoming a strong, winning poker player:
Try to taste when you should bluff, float (meaning you call with a weak hand to bluff later on in the hand.), check-raise bluff and so on. After a few months of practice you should know when to do what and you're on your way to becoming even a professional poker player!

Once you're done you may start moving on to another poker game if you like.

Thank you for reading my guide, hope I tought you something today! If you decide to play poker, good luck winning!!

I'm impressed, you know a lot about poker :). This is a great guide, but the red font is somewhat hard to read, the white is better to be honest. I learned a good deal, thanks.

Overall, it was a pretty good guide.

I agree with Straggler, the red coloring makes it somewhat difficult to read but the concepts are substantial.

    Constructive Critism:

*I'd suggest you go into more details about learning the general rules/concepts of poker and etc. Detail is everything, not everyone understands each step of the process like you and you're basically giving people directions. More detailed directions= higher chance of people getting to their destination (I.E: becoming a good poker player)

*Seperate out each step out better: It's hard for me to tell where each step is. You might want to largen the font where it says each step or something along those lines so people can have easier access.

    Nice guide overall :)
