PayPal Question...

This PayPal Question is for my cousin, since he's new to PayPal and I don't know the answer to his question..

He's a minor, and he wants to make a PayPal account. He made a High School checking account at the Chase Bank under his mother's name. He was wondering for when he register's his PayPal account...can he put the PayPal name as under his or does it have to be his mothers? Because, either ways, whether it's his or his mother's...his Checking account information that's registered under his mother's name will be registered in the PayPal account he's going to use or create, so, the information will lead straight to his Chase Bank High School Checking account.

If he can't put the PayPal name as under his own, it must be under his mother's name since that's the parent account, and he's a minor and can't open up his own PayPal account under his name and stuff, correct?

So, for example...if his name is Bob, and his mom's name is Lily, when you sign into PayPal, it would say..Hello, Bob Boblabee (minor's name), does that make a difference?

And if he wanted to send his money from his PayPal account to his bank...would they look for the name "Bob Boblabee" or would they just look up the bank information under the information supplied to PayPal for the bank information (routing number, account number, etc).

Also, if they would just look up the bank information to know which Bank account the money goes to...the name on the PayPal could be anything you want, correct? If they look up the PayPal account name and compare it to the Bank account names, then ignore this question.

Anyone know the answer to this?

It has to be his mothers. From there he can make a Student account, which is his own (13+ for that). Trust me, make it in someone's name that is older than 18, or else you'll get in a loooooooot of trouble when they limit your account.

To directly answer your question, you can have a bank account linked to your account without your name, but make sure the Paypal account name is 18+.

Cesc is right. If he is under eighteen he cannot legally use paypal. If any suspicions arise there will be no way for him to get his money back if its under his name and he is a minor. Best bet is to use his moms's name.

 

Alright, and like Cesc said about the student account under his mothers/father's name..

If he creates a student account...when he receives and sends transactions, can he change the PayPal name to his? If he's uncomfortable about having his mothers or fathers name shown instead of his?

 

It he creates a student account, he can receive and send money under his name. Student accounts have certain limitations set by the guardian supervising it.

Your best bet is to simply make it under his parent's name, but you can set it to only show the first name if they are uncomfortable.

 

Alright, so...you're telling me:

In order to create a student account, he has to create a NEW PayPal account? Not go to the profile and change it to a Student Account under his Parent's PayPal?

And do you choose what shows as the name or can you ONLY make it show his first name? Such as:

Full Name: Bob Boblagee
First Name: Bob
Wants to show as: Bob B.

Is that possible?

I'm unsure of the first question. You may be able to change a current account to a Student Account.

As for the second question, you would have to enter your last name in as B. as far as I know. These were the requirements for when I registered my account (which was a while back).
