A name change wouldn't kill?

I have been here LONGER than my join date, maybe as much as 2 years, I can't recall but I was here before the hack in which we had to create new accounts. I have been with Sythe with little to no problems at all, donating info when I can and being a quiet member of the community, but still being helpful. I ask for a name change multiple times, with nothing on record for a reason not to get one, But it can't be done. If I had the name Cento I would be ecstatic, please consider.

 

Not to be a dick, but your join date was 2 years ago..so you kinda contridicted yourself...And Admins get name changes, I do not see the problem with it if you're a donator, or something..

 

maybe a donater perk?, like 50$ and more or something would be sick!

 

colonel, you just proved my point exactly. only long term members of sythe remember when they lost their aqccounts due to a mass hack and most had to recreate them, which was chaos because of hacking and scamming.

 

I don't think name changes are given, unless you are being promoted to staff, in which case they get their name changed because their name needs to be changed from if their username is stupid or whatever, to something more professional. You know, so it doesn't make the site look bad.

It's not going to happen. You don't have a good enough reason to get it changed.

There are some exceptions, i.e. username is possibly offensive towards others (you jew), or changed to be more professional (smr, matthew)

But other than that, name changes rarely happen.

This is the feedback forum, not the suggestions forum. But yes, you're right about the other stuff.

New users kept on thinking he was a mod and he was getting requests to close/lock/rename threads. It's a valid reason.

 

Some new users might start PMing him asking if he's a rabbit. I think his name change might not help him with his problem.

EDIT: Also, I find it hard to believe that he would have gotten that change if he wasn't chummy with you and Ryan. Perhaps Ryan remembers Booty Love? Anyways, whatever. It doesn't really matter, it's just that perhaps you should make it ironclad whether or not users can change their names or not. That mod excuse is just incredibly lame.

 

And his user title "Previously Moddarator" doesn't make him sound like an Ex-mod? To me, it looks like he got a name change and a free user title.

But hey, that may be only me.

 

It aint just you, that makes me more confused with him being a mod than his name being Moddarater.


As a fact, the first tiem I saw "Previously - moddarator", I was like "Mod? I've never heard of him..."

 

I think the reason they don't allow name changes for regular users is because many others will start asking for name changes too.

One person says "oh, it's just me. C'mon you mods, you're only changing my name once". Then people will say "well (username) got his name changed!!! Why can't we?!"

It will become a hassle. I'd want my name changed to just Infernal, but that's not going to happen unless I recreate a new account.

 

I am not any more chummy with him then any other user I talk to. I don't give him any special treatment.

Sorry, but we don't allow them, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

The main reason we don't allow name changes for normal users is that it would get too confusing; who you are on this site is determined, in part, by the reputation you build - and reputation means nothing when you can't even remember who's who.

I would also get really annoying to answer scam reports about users who magically disappear. >.>

For new mods, it's not necessarily a contradiction to give them a new name; with the rank, they get a chance to redefine themselves anyway. It also does, as Sythe suggested, make the site look more professional to weed out potentially offensive names.

 

Moddarator was a special case, due to what his name implies.

Not only that fact he was getting asked to perform mod duties, it should never had been allowed in the first place. Just like some shouldn't be able to make the username "Admin" etc.
