Outer Space and Beyond, I have a few questions for you all!

I am writing a book, and I REALLY Need help with it. It is a science fiction book, based upon space exploration, and it is a lot like Halo, except there is no... well, "Halo" in it.

The main story is set around Humanity and how we have progressed throughout the centuries, and we are just able to travel at a speed close to the speed of light (Since speed of light is basicly impossible without black holes), and Space Ships have progressed into gigantic space tour ships, war ships, and personal jets for space.

But there is also a climatic point, where a lone ship names The Movement is forced to jump out of the solar system.

Basicly, I am wondering a few things, and I need YOUR Feed back, if you dont mind.

1. What Date (Year 2056 For Example) Do you think Humans will be able to colonize on other planets?

2. Do you think we are the only ones out there? (Here) Meaning there are NO OTHER LIVING THINGS In the universe?

3. What are some causes YOU Think that an Space War (A war in space with Space ships... and guns) Would happen? List a few reasons why such a thing would happen, such as terrorists... or Aliens.

We'll be able to begin terraforming/para-terraforming within 100 years, assuming no massive setbacks (massive war, peak oil production, etc.).

Absolutely not. There are some 100 billion stars in the Milky Way, and around 100 billion galaxies that we can see. The odds appear to be stacked in life's favor.

If we meet aliens, we will likely have no real interaction with them, or will be forced to destroy them, due to overwhelming differences between us.

Aliens are much more intellegent than us. And to be honest I dont think there green, and ugly like everybody else thinks.

At the current progress (of my knowledge) would say 2075 or something like that.

I'm not sure, I mean if it's Science Fiction, you could obviously add aliens or something, or maybe even another race like humans exist, but we never knew it, and they didn't either. Just a suggestion. It's your book, do what you want. But personally, I don't think there are. Just sounds a bit too crazy.

Well definitely resources, and space( as in living space for the growing population). Also, could be defense, or offense.

4. ANY Other Dates, Websites, or Ideas you have, I would be HAPPY To include them in my book, even character names or planet names I would REALLY Like. My answer to number too, I think aliens are a bit too ordinary in Science Fiction. But maybe because they make a good reader...

Animorphs, anyone?

The first idea that came to mind when thinking about the possibility of a 'space war' was that it would be a dispute over planets. Say two countries wanted to colonize the same planet and an agreement could not be met. That could be grounds for a war in space.

Also, the US president could just claim that one planet has weapons of mass-destruction and use that as an excuse to attack

 

Oh very nice. I like that too.

Anyone else care to help me along a little?

 

Interesting topic

1. We wont be able to colonize on planets for a long time. First we would need to find a suitable planet. Then we would somehow have to *GET* to the planet. Then we would need the resources for colonization. However, setting up a colony on Earth's moon would be interesting. That would probably take 100 to 200 years.

2. If life is able to develop in the first place, then its possible to develop elsewhere.

3. We would most likely fight ourselves. Since this is a small planet, and resources are limited. Why would we fight aliens? 2 intelligent races would take the time to study each other and learn from one another. However, if we were to compete with another civilization for resources on a planet, then we might fight one another.

4. Armored suits for all planetary environments and war (Star Craft).
