building my own computer...newb help

hey im planning on building my own computer. I have a basic knowlage of hardware but im new to this. I was wondering how you find out which parts are compatible with what?

 

Basically, all you need to worry about is selecting a motherboard and finding a CPU (processor) that is compatible with it.

www.newegg.com should help. I'm pretty sure if you pick a motherboard and you hit specifications, it'll list compatible processors that you could use. If anyone knows any other parts that have to be compatible with each other, post.

 

In a nutshell,

Socket 775 supports the Core 2 series wich includes the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad, it used mainly DDR2 RAM, up to 8G of it, with the expetion of certain boards that can use DDR3. Depending on the model, the board and support either SLI or CF. This motherboard is basically dead meening that no more CPUs will be developed on it, nonethe less, when equipped properly, the socket 775 and compeat with the LGA 1366 / Socket B anyday when it comes to a matter of gaming.

LGA 1366 / Socket B is the new socket type avadible and uses intels new CPU the core i7, it supports upto 12G only DDR3 RAM aswell as Tri SLI and CF.

Performance wise, this new socket really shines in matters of video encoding and CPU heavy tasks, but frankly pc gaming still hasnt taken full addvantage of quad core CPUs therfore if your a gamer there is no reason to blow all your money on this new platform because of its expesive componants;DDR3, Corei7

So basically, if your on a buget and your into gaming you should probablly go with socket 775 because of its price tag, however keep in mind that you are buying a dead socket and that in a few years you might just have to ditch your whole system if you want to upgrade.
