Brix's Advance Guide on How to protect your sight!

Hey this is Brix here writing a guide to you on how keep your eyes protected. I noticed I was on the computer to long yesterday and I woke up with a blurey vision, after doing some research and lerning a few little tips I thought I shoiuld write a guide :)... 3 Hours later this is what I came up with.

We all use our eyes everyday to do practically everything and some of us take them for granted-our eyes. We rely on them for almost everything that we do .A survey was conducted and out of our 5 senses people feared losing which sight the most? Their eyes.

Even though our sight is one of our most relied upon uses in our body we hardly ever look after/care for them. We have many protection methods for our skin but what we really need to realize is that we can remove skin cancer and once we lose our eyes their gone. In this guide I will present to you many ways to care for and protect your eyes.

How to prevent disorders of your Eyes

    Staying Safe:

Safety Glasses – These are very cheap which you can pick up for around $4 at your local retailer and offer protection to your eyes when in the workshop or doing anything than involves flying materials.

Sun Glasses – If you do not wear them you may encounter damage from the sun to your eyes. By wearing sunglasses you can prevent eye line wrinkles by stopping you squinting into the sunlight. So just wear them, they do nothing but good for your eyes.

Eye examinations – Book regular eye examinations with your local eye care specialists to check your eyes to ensure you live a long sight filled life. They will also advise you on any medications/procedures you need to take to improve the quality of your vision.

Sufficient Light - Turn on the lights when it's getting dark so you dont strain your eyes when your reading.

    Vitamins

Vitamins are a substance which are greatly needed to keep our bodies fit and healthy. Vitamins play a huge role in our day to day lifestyle and without them our eyes will suffer. Let’s face it, none of us are getting any younger and with age comes degeneration. Age-related macular degeneration or AMD (an eye disease in conjunction with aging) is what most elderly people have to deal with each day. This degeneration of the eye degrades the quality of central vision. Refer below to see the difference.

To greatly reduce the risk of not only the degeneration of the Macular in your eyes but it will prevent other disorders/diseases as well. Some of the Vitamins that play a big role in eye disorder prevention are the popular Vitamin A, B and C. Here are some foods which contain a large source of each Vitamin.

    Vitamin A.

    - Carrot juice
    - Sweet potato
    - Pumpkin
    - Carrots
    - Spinach
    - Mixed vegetables
    - Turnip greens
    - Chinese cabbage
    [IMG]

    Vitamin B.

    - Potato
    - Banana
    - Chicken breast
    - Oatmeal
    - Tomato juice
    - Sunflower seeds
    - Soybeans
    [IMG]

    Vitamin C.

    - Papaya
    - Broccoli
    - Brussel sprouts
    - Strawberries
    - Oranges
    - Kiwifruit
    - Cauliflower
    [IMG]

These are just some of the main sources of Vitamin B which you can obtain by eating the right foods.
    Preparation.
To ensure some of the Vitamin A is not lost in preparation of the food ensure that you try to serve the fruits/vegetables raw or steamed. This will limit the amount of Vitamin A loss in every serve.
And DONT STARE DIRECTLY AT SUNLIGHT

Thanks, I stare at the computer screen WAY to much and my eyes hurt really badly.

Question: Is it good for your eyes when you urn down the brightness of your monitor?

Question: Flat screen or CRT monitor? Almost everywhere i look it says that LCD is better, but for me, LCD hurts my eyes much more...

It depends, just try not to be in a dark room with a very bright screen, that's what really damages your eyes and sit back a bit- if your close you tend to get really bad headaches.

From what I have researched, try keep everything the same brightness IE. If your computer is on make sure you have a light next to you or above you that is on so it dosn't put much strain on your eyes.

Not what I was expecting , I was expecting tips that really help like some techniques to improve your vision eg. "Palming".

Overall it's a good guide. Vitamin A is the most important for our eyes :D

Out of all the guides you have written, this is probably your best one. I really like the fact that you included things like vitamins at the end which are very helpful in protecting your sight. Keep it up. This is a good guide.

Pretty nice guide, should talk about daily activities like how many hours of computer, how far you need to sit when you watch TV,etc.
