    Brexit

"Britain trades with countries in the EU" is not thriving off of the EU, because governments don't produce trade, businesses and consumers do. The EU leeches an enormous amount of money from the UK while being able to impose regulations on UK businesses that hurt trade.

No, trade makes everyone involved richer. The EU is a governing body, it can impede trade, it cannot create trade. Trade is created by businesses and consumers.

You said the UK thrived off of the EU because the EU is UK's largest trading partner.

Since governments don't create trade, I don't see how trade could be listed as a reason for how the UK "thrives" off of the EU, since UK businesses are harmed by EU regulations and taxes.

Free trade deals that the EU negotiated with 53 countries, including Canada, Singapore and South Korea, will no longer apply to the UK. If the UK wants the benefits of them it will have to renegotiate with those countries. The EU single market - the world's biggest free trade area with 500 million consumers is very crucial to the UK. They can still trade under the WTO rules, but negotiations leading up to that can take years. That is enough time for the UK's market to plummet. The exit of the EU itself will take a while, but the effect is already taking place (devalued currency).

There's no reason free trade between UK and anywhere else would change depending on EU membership, but losing EU membership saves the British people money, and will make UK business much more profitable & desirable for new and foreign entrepreneurs.

EU countries are the main trading partner of Switzerland as well, which is why your reason that the UK thrives off of the EU because the EU is it's main trading partner doesn't hold up.

Well, considering that most English people didn't know the meaning of what being in the E.U. was, I don't think this will be a good thing.

Now apply that to the many countries in which Britain would have to renegotiate with.

UK pays for "access" and gets told the conditions upon which their industrialists can trade by the EU regulatory body. Norway and Switzerland aren't EU countries.

First the UK "THRIVES" off of the EU, now the goalposts have been moved to "there would be very little saving".

Quoting a statement made by google recent searches doesn't make it true, anyone who matters or cares to vote knows what the EU is. I personally voted out and I am made up we are free of their disgusting leadership and arrogance in the high end of the EU. I also hope the referendum of the UK will have impact on the other bigger EU countries such as Germany, France, Belgium, Italy etc.. They all want out and it's time for the EU president to drop the attitude and get in to reality that EU is a failure. Start making changes, listen to the real people and get their head out of their own arses and make changes or lose big countries.

Keep using words you don't know how to use correctly, it's funny.

If you read my last two replies, you would see how the UK thrives off the EU. Norway and Switzerland also thrive off the EU, just not in the same capacity as the UK. In terms of economic growth, the EU specifically makes it easier for Europeans to trade with one another by governing trade (changing rules that control trade).

Again, if you read my last couple replies, you would understand there is a trade off. By leaving the EU you lose accessibility to various deals you once had at the expense of saving very little money.

Note: The quote was specifically talking about countries within the EU, in which very little money is saved. This does not cover all of the possible 53 countries that the EU has negotiated with.

Because of the drastic change in the UK's standard economic process, expect a significant drop off, and a slow recovery.

When it comes to Brexit, "saving" money was of the least concern, I assure you that.

The UK, Norway, and Switzerland thrive off trade, not the EU.

Governing and controlling trade is the opposite of making it easier for people to trade with one another. The EU can only inhibit trade, not create it.

They prosper off the trade deal with the EU, so yes, they thrive off the EU.

How is that the opposite? That makes no sense whatsoever. Why do you keep mentioning they can't create trade? Who is opposing that and where did that come from?

In regard to economics, the EU is essentially a middleman, so yes, it makes it easier for Europeans to trade with each other.

Trade is independent of the EU. These countries traded with each other before the EU. Thriving off trade =/= thriving off of the EU.

When two parties want to trade with each other, a third unrelated party (the EU) governing the trade and taking a tax cut makes it more difficult for those parties to trade. The transaction would occur to greater economic benefit if the EU were not involved.

Completely wrong. Compare the EU to a middleman. Middleman are chosen voluntarily by traders. Traders don't have to use a middleman if they don't want in a free market.

    Your ignorance is staggering, Xier0.

Except these countries thrive off the EU single market (EU specific). It is the largest international single market in the world, which has lead to:

    • greater competition in services - which is good for businesses and consumers
    • removal of trade barriers
    • reduction of business costs
    • greater business efficiency
    • elimination of anti-competitive practices - such as monopolies and cartels

    Source

    That makes no sense.

The EU has taken measures to reform and make it even easier for countries to trade with each other, such as:

    • reducing paperwork
    • harmonising standards - eg technical and safety standards
    • introducing the euro - allowing a single currency to trade with
    • enforcing the movement of people - allowing member state citizens to move freely between other countries
    Source

How does it make it more difficult again?

You're thinking of a Sythe middleman, which is hilariously childish considering the subject.

Middleman - a person who arranges business or political deals between other people.

The EU embodies every aspect of a middleman in business and politics.

There is a course called Working through a European middleman which talks specifically about maneuvering through the EU. Pretty interesting read if you're in or interested in that specific field (law).

Xier0 I'd recommend reading some more economics textbooks and see how perfectly competitive trade with less monopolies and less barriers to entry benefits the society as a whole.

That's what I'm arguing for. The EU creates trade barriers, removing those barriers benefits society.
