    Audi A3 or something else?

I've been looking at getting a new car recently and I don't want a peasants vehicle. I want something with a bit of class a few gadgets, good build quality and doesn't cost an absolute fortune to run.

Now my problem lies with my age. I'm 22 and earning about 35k a year basic wage (gbp). I can afford the car on finance and I can lay down a 6k deposit easy enough, and pay about 160 a month for it over 4 years. I wouldn't be struggling for money either cos I'd still have like a grand left over after my phone bills and rent etc.

My problem lies with insurance really... But I think the fact that I'm 22 (3 years no claims, been driving for 5 years). I wouldn't want to be forking out over a grand year just to insure the car cos I want to ideally have money for a house in two years time.

I want the 2.0 TDi sportback (148bhp) SE trim. Has anyone got any other nice cars that are efficient on fuel? I travel about 15k miles a year so want something comfortable and fuel efficient. Also, anyone got any idea how much insurance would be roughly?

    350z 5ever.

I suggest at least a 07 for the engine but it's your call. my350z forums always have already modded cars for sale for great prices, you can pick one up pretty cheap.

There isn't much you'll find that isn't for peasants but doesn't cost a bit to insure, that's the tradeoff.

Until that Rotary goes on you ;) I love my Mazda and I love my friend's Rx8 but they are expensive to fix once they go because of that technology.

I've got a Golf MK6 which cost me around £7k incl a screen and amazing alloys. I say you get a Mk5 or Mk6 Golf TDI 2.0 and remap it. Get some decent alloys and a body kit. Will cost around £10k.

I'd prefer a Golf if I was you, but an Audi A3 is pretty nice as well. I personally dont like the look of it though :p

I've ordered a Volkswagen Scirocco R-line 2.0L TDi with keyless entry, dynaudio upgrade and the 'special' (there's nothing special about it other than the fact they want to charge for white now...) pure white. Couldn't resist the park assist at an additional £150 too - way to cool to pass up on! Anyway it should be built in January time :)

Good to hear that OP. I'm wondering too whether buying the A3 or the VW scirocco. Don't really know what to do atm.

you make 35k a year, and you want to buy an audi? AND you wanna pay only 160/mo for it? let's be realistic here bud....It's not going to work out in your favor the way you're expecting it to, even a poor-man's audi like an A3.

let's be realistic and look at the facts... Based on your income + age, you likely have very little credit history. This is normal with probably over 95% of your age group, don't take that as an attack towards you...it's reality. That being said, you're not going to get an ideal interest rate.
If you're going to put down 6k GBP, and you're planning to pay the loan off in four years, you're looking at MINIMUM 400GBP a month. This is assuming the amount financed is about 16500 @ ~8.9%(19,700 total in payments after interest is factored in) on an original total vehicle cost of 24000.

to get close to your numbers, you'd need great credit, a 5-year term, and 14k down to bring your payments to about 190/month. just FYI.

I've been thinking about buying a 2014/2015 Civic Si myself but I can't decide.

Oh yeah mate, I realised this lol. I wanted to get a house but on my wage I can afford more. VW are offering a 1500 deposit contribution on new scirocco cars and I could easily fork out 400 a month so I've took it out with a 5k(+1.5k) deposit, 450 pm and a balloon payment of about 5k. I was just thinking if I got a little shitty polo then I could get a house in 2 years, but with my gfs income too (she's a vet) I can easily get this car and have money left over along with 500 quid savings a month. Also my credit rating is good, I've had a couple of cards but always managed debt well. Think my credit rating is 443?

Even if you could make this work with the money you're making, it's almost certainly a terrible decision. It will have to trade off with spending elsewhere which will decrease your standard of living overall or put you in bad shape with respect to savings.

Mmm I don't think so. I drive around 15k miles a year, so I spend a lot of my time in a car, So I want a car I feel comfortable and smart in with nice little extras. Considering VW sciroccos on average retains 63% of their value residually in a 3yr/60k miles, if I'm spending 24k on the car (through a brokership) the car itself will still be worth 63% of its original rrp of around 27k, meaning I can sell it off at around 16-17k region (most likely the higher figure with the options I've chosen) after those 3 years. Including finance offers, I'd be spending roughly 24.5k in total over the 3 years, meaning I'd lose approximately 7k over those 3 years. I can live with that for a sick car. Since I get paid 4 weekly, I get paid 1700 roughly after tax, 13 times a year, and my current outgoings are my phone, tablet, Netflix, music app, fuel and personal shit (gambling, clothes, shoes, music, party etc). Meaning even after all that I still have a good 1k leftover for my car/savings to be blasted on, and that's with a 400 budget for personal stuff - so my life really wouldn't be affected tbh. Still getting 15k savings in the 3 years in addition to my current savings, I obviously get the car itself at the end of the period too, and I get to drive round in a stunning car (leather interior, ACC, great sound system, dual climate control, keyless entry etc.)

Really fail to see where my life is negatively affected ;p

Id definitely recommend you getting the 4x4 version if you live in a snowy area, it will make it a lot more pleasant for you to drive and it is a great car. Had an older version and worked like a charm for years without having to do any major repairs
