Why do I play MMOs?

It is obvious that most of the players play MMOs to satisfy their psychological needs. And I believe that many people play MMOs for a variety of reasons. For me, exploring a new fantasy world is a very useful way to reduce pressure, which really helps me get away from my real life. So I mostly play it for simple entertainment and seriously don’t care much about how many puzzles I can solve in a mmo. The second reason is that most of my friends play MMOs. It is a lot of fun to beat the crap out of others in pvp with friends.

Anyway why do you play MMOs?

 

Actually, ALL gamers play MMOs to satisfy their psychological needs. It is just simply different for everyone.

But I choose to play MMOs because life is generally way too boring, and has a lack of appeal to me. When I play an MMO I am able to talk and play with players all across the world. And even if some cases form competition.

 

I could agree with this but what about the people who play MMOs just to sell Gold? It isnt psychological at that point.


I play MMOs just because i'm bored throughout the day. Unless I am working, in class, with a significant other, with friends, or family, etc.

 

It is, Psychologically they are money driven. Simple as. It's a way of returning a profit and this interests them. Therefore there psychological needs are not directly in MMO's but indirectly related.

Personally I'm not sure why I play MMO's, it's not the achievement so must be just the relaxation and fun involved.

 

What you said is true. And i think many players including me look for happiness in mmos.
