    Help me diagnose desktop problem

I was running windows 8.1 and it crashed. When trying to boot up it would load up automatic repair but fail to repair anything. It does that every time I try to boot up the PC.

I created a bootable usb with windows 8.1 installation media on it. When I try to boot it up I get a "Disk read error".

Could my hard drive be fried or potentially some other component?

Some of your services could have been tampered with by something malicious. Can you restore it?

You could have issues with your BIOS.

I'm not exactly intermediate though. Try to be more detailed about seemingly insignificant things that occur/occurred before your crash. Anything you downloaded/messed with/etc etc etc, someone might be able to derive an explanation.

    Help me diagnose desktop problem

You know, I have no idea what happened.

Luckily I just managed to fix it after like 3 weeks. Creating bootable USBs with windows iso didn't work. Installing Microsoft's USB maker didn't work.

What worked was their "Create recovery media" tool, that I used to "Refresh" my PC through the automatic repair tool.

Thanks for posting though! I appreciate it :)

I know its already been resolved and this may not be the problem but when booting from USB make sure your drive IS NOT in a use 3.0 slot :)
