Yeah, I totally agree, I recommend being yourself and commit things that you will do for them, and include some humor, sorry this is not much help but can help you in your speech making.

You might want to learn some correct grammar and spelling before running for the president or whatever it is.

I agree with stating that it's ussually a popularity contest. Also what I've heard before is making your name catchy with the slogan. Keep it basic and to the point.
