Why include punk? Its hardly relevant to any of the other genres you listed, and the punk revolution in the 70's is easily comparable to revolutions like rock 'n roll. Many bands were extremely talented with both writing and executing music (I'm not talking about the Sex Pistols here), and were insanely inspirational.

 

I mean I love the clash, patti smith. Sonic Youth, Jay Reteard (RIP) etc. I meant hardcore shitty modern punk. Like Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Still remains, Pig destroyer, Rudimentary peni

It's funny how you are bashing all the genres that you don't like.
I thought this was opinional after all. Most of the bands you(Wombakage) mentioned are pretty shit but that's just me.

 

TBH it looks like you got those hardcore bands straight from a wikipedia on hardcore punk, those bands are hardly modern and hardcore punk has been pretty much dead since the 80s/early 90s. Don't mix hardcore punk up with the shitty modern hardcore.

The Killers and Muse are also pretty good bands!
As for old bands, maybe Metallica or The Police.
