Woman Sentenced to Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner for Cops

A few days ago i posted a thread about a boy sentenced to 10 years of church. Now this.Made me lol.

 

Sounds about retarded.

 

I like the alternative sentencings. It is much better than just throwing someone in jail. All they're going to do is add more to the overpopulation of the prison population if they do that. She is lucky she didn't get like 3+ months in jail, I would much rather cook a turkey dinner than spend several months in jail.

Prison has always been an attempt to 'rehabilitate' criminals and introduce them back into society, but all the prison does now is teach criminals how to become better criminals. So by doing alternative sentences our tax dollars aren't paying to keep them up and they could learn a thing or two.

 

It could still be labeled as unusual punishment.

 

The church one was a little more absurd to be honest. This is still out of way, though. Who comes up with these sentences? If it were a guy, would they still have sentenced him to cook Thanksgiving dinner?

 

Well I'd personally rather cook a dinner for 3 people than go to prison.
It's stupid, but hey... She can't complain..

 

Alternative sentences are much better, and a hell of a lot less costly.

Definitely an unusual way to punish someone, and it doesn't really help her rehabilitate either, unless she's a horrid cook. Seems meant either to shame her, or the cop was a good friend of the judge's and pulled a string or two.

Well, the cops don't choose the punishment. It's a judge that chooses it (sometimes a jury), so I am not sure how you get to your conclusion.

 

That's an interesting punishment, cause that shit is weird in general. Usually they just put people in jail/prison for the stupidest things. But whatever, she's generally an innocent person.

I like the alternative sentences. It makes people think more about it and not just go through the ropes of going to court then going to prison. However, this may make some people feel as though it's too easy to get away. I guess in moderation these are fine, but making it a common occurrence might have a counter-effect.

 

For minor issues these are a brilliant idea, but remember that the serious cases always get prison, there's no alternative sentence/punishment for them.

 

This sounds like something from the Onion (fake news site). It's quite amusing that these things are handed out as sentences, however I think that rather than such sentences be handed down, they should be doing something that benefits the community as a whole, not three police officers.

 

In all seriousness this type of punishment is better than rotting in prison and now she won't be influenced by other prisoners.

Jails should be about changing the behavior of individuals.

 

Please elaborate on what judges do, make sure to write a few paragraphs in the process to better waste your time. Who would of guessed how the criminal justice system worked in the US?

Obviously the charges could not have been very serious if cooking dinner and one year probation was the punishment. The degree of the charges and the punishment make it appear as if the police arrest people for their own benefit.
